As was mentioned in other threads, this kid deserves to see the ice. Paynter comes to play every night, he gives 110% every shift, he'll drop the mitts if needed, and he is a heart and soul player. To give him one shift a game is a complete joke..........this kid can play a regular shift in this league. Just another example of how Jean is "coaching for his life"............ sure, sit the players that actually play hard and leave it all on the ice. ..while some other players see the ice no matter what kind of performance they show, or shit they do. FFS........... PLAY Paynter!

Agree with score
disagree with launcher
this isn't house league hockey where everyone gets equal icetime
Jean has to manage his bench much better but he doesn't have to play everyone equally
there is no reason for Paynter to waste a spot sitting on the bench to play 1-3 shifts a night
kid doesn't hurt us at all when he's out there..

You're right I have no coaching know how , which puts me about equal to Yannick Jean and yourself, what is your point?
I never once said anything about playing 2 lines... in fact I've been quite vocal against this stupid strategy for sometime.. however I am also not naive enough to think that just because you make the team you deserve a regular shift .... you earn your shifts.. at least you would if I was in charge.. but then as you pointed out I have no coaching know how

not sure why you're arguing with me as you pretty much agreed with what I said.. i don't like how Morrison is playing this year at all.. he's my favorite player on the team but he doesn't seem to be working near as hard as he can.. I also see a major regression in Doyle and Southorn thus far the only point i am arguing is your play everyone equally stance... no matter what level of hockey you are in the rookies icetime is always held back in comparison to experienced vets.. the vets do get more leeway because they've proven themselves.. now i agree if they make the same mistakes over and over then they should have their icetime cutback as well and i also completely disagree with your guarantee Jean his job for the year so he'll "play everyone".. he had his job guaranteed for the past 2 years and he's not developed anyone but since you are such a great coach.. why don't you send a resume into Serge maybe you can save our season and keep your boy Clow happy

I agree Paynter and Malouin earned their stripes last year and should be getting more ice
I am also not happy with Maclean being a fixture in the pressbox now after he started to show some improvement
DesRoches if he's dressed deserves more than one shift per game for sure but I think he's very much a bubble player
Not gonna keep arguing with you on here.. we essentially agree I think.. so it's not really of benefit to continue this banter on here
How do you make Jean play everyone? If he's the coach you have to give him the freedom to make the coaching decisions in game.. if he can't do that to the satisfaction of the GM then he should be fired.. we both know he should be fired
the real question is why hasn't he been?

I'm so sick of watching half-hearted efforts from the so-called "stars", while those who deserve to be playing are on the bench, picking splinters out of their ass cheeks. I remember one time (I think last year), in Cape Breton, PV benched his first line for a good portion of the remainder of the game for floating. I'd take a blowout loss, with the stars on the bench, to make a point. At least then, I'd know that Jean was at least trying.

Jean either has to go, or he has to be guranteed not to be fired this season regardless of what happens and instructed to play everyone in every situation so they are prepared for playoffs. If they can;t make the playoffs using the whole bench, they won't get anywhere in the playoffs anyway if they just develop 8-9 players. I think he needs to be fired, but if thats not gonna happen, making him play everyone is the next best thing. I agree with most of what you said and the importance of everyone getting ice time to develop not only for the playoffs but we'll be in terrible shape next year if we don't develop. Where I really disagree is the suggestion if it's not gonna happen making him play everyone is the next best thing. The problem I have with that is playing them is not enough to develop them. As a coach he has to have a plan and knowledge to pass on to the players. Without that they'll just run around on the ice and get beat constantly. If Savard is not going to fire Jean, Savard better send Jean to night school. Surely the Savard family has plenty of solid hockey contacts with retired NHL calibre coaches who can act as a mentor and provide Jean with insight and suggestions on how to pick up the level of play. I'm also concerned that he may not have the respect of the players. Without that he's not going to be able to turn things around.
