Hopefully the cats get things rolling again.
I'll say 4-2 Cats.

Cats leading 2-1 but not a great 1st, Bathurst outworked them so far.

Johnston out mann in.....guess someone in doghouse He was wearing a full face shield yesterday ... and was one of our better players even though everybody was bad. He was -5 but I think that was the fault of a lot of others. I can't see singling him out on an entire team failure.

No wonder folks call Gerry Green a homer...wow...he called it just a battle with a wildcats player clearly tripping a Bathurst forward.

Johnston definitely wasn't a healthy scratch. Looked like he had a puck coming out the side of his mouth.

Cats leading 2-1 but not a great 1st, Bathurst outworked them so far. A 3-2 win in a shoot-out against the last place team in the entire league. That is slightly less than embarrassing, 10 goals against you from the last place teams. I didn't seem much in this afternoon's game that was much better that last nite against CB outside of a few bounces that went Cats way. Dubeau was shaky again in my view.

It's always good to have a laugh on a Monday morning.
Today's article in the T&T provides just that. Yesterday's win is presented in a way that says boy, they really accomplished something special! After that tough loss Saturday, what a magical bounce back victory.
Funny whenever they lose in a shootout they all go on about how it was "basically a tie". I completely agree with that sentiment, but when they win in a shootout it's "we found a way to win" as if it was some sort of gritty performance to pull out the victory. Can't have it both ways.
Also, shootouts should go the way of the Dodo bird. I'm beyond sick of this stupid gimmick and can't recall ever leaving the rink as dissatisfied with a tie as I do for any shootout result. Unfortunately I think we're stuck with it and all we can do is hope they make the move to have 3-on-3 in OT as well.

The cats did "find a way to win", so you have to give them credit for it...but even chsb wouldn't say(ok maybe he would...) they have "turned a corner". The only positive is they got back in the win column and played a bit better than Saturday, but they have work to do. Not sure if the road trip knocked them down a few pegs confidence wise or if they have a few players hitting a wall, but they look much different than 3-4 weeks ago...

For me it's been a different team since the Christmas break. Seemed like almost every shot was going in at times and now not so much. Here's a look at some offensive numbers since the break:
Garland - 1 goal in 13 games Barbashev - 2 goals in 8 games Leger - 1 goal in 12 games Smith - 1 goals in 11 games (1 in 15 overall) Burke - 2 goals in 13 games (no points in his last 6 games) Tibbo - 0 goals in 11 games Jacob - 1 goal in 13 games
Let's also add in one more that I feel is very important:
Johnson - 2 games played
Now I know the players listed above aren't all offensive players per say, but nonetheless they were all chipping in with goals before the break. After the break? Not so much. Askew has continued to produce at a decent pace with 5 goals, but after that it's Zilbert, Beaton and Bower leading the way. Is it a good that those guys are scoring some goals? Yes. Is it good that they're outproducing players like Barbashev and Garland? Nope.
Those two need to get going again and they need Johnson back sooner than later. The way the league is this season there's really no easy games on the schedule from here on out.

I think the fact that the team scored a lot of goals against relatively weak competition with Lalonde and Tkachev out in November, lulled them into a false sense of security taht those 2 could carry a big load and would get help from lesser players. Playing a rising CB team, plus BBA twice and Rim and Quebec is a lot different than Bathurst Halifax Charlotteown SJ(minus key guys) and CB(prior to LeBlanc Belander and Gosselin being added). I still think not giving Barbashev a full weak off the ice was a mistake. He seems to not be the same since WJHC.
