Found this comment at the bottom of the Rocket story on The Guardian website...
"Islander from pei writes: I was at the game last nite.4-2 with less then 8 minutes. What happened. It wasn't like he put the 4th line out for the last 8 minutes , and they blew it. it was the big guns, maybe they are tired out. Anyway , enjoy watching the games and that mascot is a riot , conhead is annoying though. Must be distracting for the bench to have to listened to him right behind the bench.Annoying enough from the stands ."
Is that you Yannick? ;D
First of all I won't get started on getting my name right. Second is this the first time this person was at the rink in the last 14 years since I started this foolishness in 1993?
Oh well...sticks and stones people....can't please everyone. For every person that wishes I'd shut up, there's 5 that say give it to them.
Makes me want to go back over behind the bench that much more Friday night. ;D..maybe hang there ALL night.

Damn it man, don't change anything you do. You're easily in the top-5 of my favorite things about going to the rink. Right after the hockey and the beer girls.
I only wish you still had that place to stand with the two railings going across, waving your PEI flag. Good times.

Agreed, don't change a thing. I especially like the penalty box antics after an opposing teams players has been pummeled or taken a bad penalty.

Conehead is awesome ;D At least we can hear him cheer from time to time. Also conehead can get the crowd going, which is no easy task at the morgue Keep doing wht you are doing, you are great!

The statement made about you totally embodies the reason why the rink is a morgue. I swear to god it was a mess last night to try and get anyone into the game...it sickens me to think that there are actually people out there that would say such a thing after 14-15 years of devotion to island hockey that you bring to not just the CCC but lots of other rinks on PEI with far fewer people at those game....people need to give their head a shake! The PEI hockey fan and the PEI driver go hand in hand....they'd get a rude awakening at a big league NHL game, and most of em would die driving on the 401.

It's one person.. hardly worth commenting about.. I wouldn't worry one iota (as i'm sure you won't)
but Krang c'mon.. conehead doesn't come close to the beer girls .. shame on you
p.s. was hoping you'd keep givin it to ole Lemonhead at the penalty box last night Wade.. did his finger waggle take you aback?
p.p.s. maybe it's just me but I actually thought the crowd was into it pretty good last night.. maybe it's just our section I dunno.. I do know the new coach got 2 pretty good ovations when announced

i think it was the lack of children in attendance last night...parents seem to get into it more when their kids are dancing and clapping...maybe i wasn't into it last night...who knows

You're right, I'm not a big fan of driving on the 401, but I'd love it if the crowd would liven up a little. Dude, please stop by section 24 every now and again....I'm lonely cheering and whistling all by myself.

Darcy, you made some good points. I'd like to comment on the entertainment in between periods that took a grand total of 2 minutes O.K. someone has to come up with in between period activities to get the fans involved. There is no doubt that alot of older folks go to the games. (and I don't mean myself There is something missing...no buzz, nothing. Hopefully the powers to be start to recognize this and do something. Its embarassing when they mention the CCC and a church in the same sentence on Eastlink.

Timbits games in between periods are easily the best entertainment I've seen. Do that more often. Maybe even shootouts and the like with older minor hockey players. Rolling tires at the net is, believe it or not, pretty boring. Sorry Darc.

don't have to say sorry to me, i'm just the voice, have zero to do with the planning...timbits will be back, its still very early in the minor hockey season so i can see it starting up again pretty soon once teams and players are situated but you are right....there's a lot more that can/could be done...its just a matter of coming up with something that's going to be both entertaining and something that "hasn't already be milked to the bone"

I actually enjoy the old fashion, "shoot the puck through the extra small hole competition".
Get a board made up, decked with Rocket decor, and there ya go. Gotta be worth a great prize though, as not to often that puck goes in.
I don't see it being done very often anymore, so maybe there's a reason for that.

You're right, there's always some good anticipation surrounding the Score-O-shootout...i remember at Sens game when it was sponsored by F.R. McLaine's and you could win like 10grand...not sure why it isn't kicking around anymore aside from the fact that McLaine's doesn't exist anymore either
big prizes aren't in the mix that much anymore either...i'm even surprised Coast tire still does the tire roll after giving away 5 sets of tires last year that's a buttload of money tied up prizes for contestants....although if we have contestants like we did last night ever time, they may breath easier

the hidden bag of cash used to be a great one too... everytime it wasn't found another 25 bucks was added to the pot
totally agree the tire thing was never very entertaining except of course when the dude walked the tire into the net lol
