I don't think you can make the second whatif.. Lund has never shown any ability to be a top stud dman.. he is now seemingly a solid 4-5 guy at best
Your first point is very interesting if in fact true... Pistilli and Delisle would be great to have here... of course we're assuming we would have used the draft pick to take Delisle and who knows if that is the case

I think you asked for too much from Lund at 17 ... and he didn't handle the responsibility very well. I think he will be a solid top 4 guy at 19 ... an age where most Dmen really show their talent. You guys wanted him to be a top 4 guy at 16 and 17 ... if you had surrounded him with veteran talent on D at 16 then you might have seen more from him at 17.

Asked too much from Lund  Before the season started we had Gragnani, Guilbault & Lessard collectively maybe the best top 3 in the league. Lund's role last season was to share the 4th/5th spot with Boutin. Not to lead the defense not to play top minutes but simply play solid minutes and compete for his time. For a player who was touted as a potential first round NHL draft pick that is not unreasonable. And at 16 Lund was surrounded by some quality character veterans like Lachance, Mealy, Milot and D-Mac. So that wasn't an issue either. IMO the Rocket have had some players here who did not work out which I feel largely was because of the situation they were in but Lund is one of the few who I think it was simply the player as unfortunately even his move to Halifax didn't help him at all. Too bad because I really feel he did have all the tools he simply wasn't able to put them together. |
