It is possible he was trying to take the pressure off the team with his comments down playing this years edition of the Rocket. Here are a few things I recall from the interview with John Moore before last nights Moose/PEI Rocket contest.
On contending, he said that you can't contend in this league with one line and a defence that is as inexperienced and young as the one that you guys have. He said the preseason ranking was way off base and that serge suggested they were a team capable of finishing between 7th and 11th.
Perhaps expectations have been a wee bit lofty in Rocket land...

Most people here knew that the preseason ranking was way off base to begin with. As far as the expectations of this year, I think that alot of people were basing that on this year's roster versus next year's roster. Next year the defense should be better with the 17 year olds having another season under their belt, but will lose alot of offense with the Morrison and Walker being gone. People feel that this year is/was our best chance to do something.
Perhaps some of it was hope and some of it was wishful thinking, but after 5 years of not having anything close to a contending team I think that perhaps expectations get higher and patience gets lower. Plus if you factor in the fact that attendance has been steadily declining and having your owner reminding you of that every year, the future of the team in Charlottetown doesn't look the most promising. I can't speak for others but one of my concerns is that by the time the Rocket ice a competitive team it may be in another city. This is just my opinion, but it seems like that time is not on our side because of this.
Fans here have been hearing "next year we will be better" for the last 3 years without the promised results. Whether this year's expectations are justified or not, fans here just want to see a competitive team at least once.

w have been hearing this " better next year crap " for three years. this team should at least be as good as last years but we have not seen that yet. as for next year, with who we will be losing and what we have coming up i do not expect us being better, i expect us being worse.
if we have a shot at being competitive it has to be "this" year.

this team is going no where. you look at attendance around the league, with the exception of quebec, and halifax, most teams draw between 2,00 and 2500 a game, exactly what the rocket draw. and there is also probably no market for them to go to.

last year was the year we should have went for it.. we had excellent overagers, decent goaltending, quality defense.... some good christmas moves to add to the additions of morrison and gervais would have given us a real shot to go deep... instead we downgraded
this year looked promising if a quality 20 dman would have been added this summer.. unfortunately we again went cheap...
next year doesnt look promising at all
