Just to let you guys know John Moore was on News talk 95.7 here in Halifax earlier today and said that Bowers had told him he is going to play for CB next year. Some of you are probably asking how creditable is this statement. Well it is believed that Moore traveled to and from the draft with Bowers. If there was anything to Ryan Kennedy's tweet we would be hearing more about it from local reporters such as Palov and Moore who have been in touch with the kid and his family for the past few weeks. If this was 5 years ago I would be concerned but coming in to play with players like Svechnikov and Dubois in front of a heavily scouted teamis the best thing for all of our prospects at this point. Some of us have been saying all along that if you stick to the plan eventually you get some kids who break the trend of players not wanting to be here. The drafting and quick development of Dubois at the same time Svechnikov showed up has helped us turn that corner. I would guess that tweet from Kennedy was fed from Bowers agent as a last ditched effort to get him traded to Saint John or Halifax. Once it was clear that wasn't going to materialize, no big issue playing for the Eagles. There never was you just always have preferences, no different than us fans during the draft wanting our team to pick certain players over others.

Shane Bowers is using a picture of himself in a Screaming Eagles sweater on his Twitter account, so I think is safe to assume that he will be at C200 in August.
Furthermore, as a previous poster pointed out, Cape Breton is an excellent place for him in respect of the fact he will be benefited by the presence of Svechnikov and Dubois, both of whom are in the process of going through "the highly regarded NHL first round prospect" thing. And, Dumont is convinced all three will be first round NHL draft picks. In fact, he thinks, and hopes, that Bowers may turn out better than Veleno.

Bowers will be better than Velano right away but Velano has a higher ceiling.

Bowers will be better than Velano right away but Velano has a higher ceiling. Velano had similar stats in a stronger midget league at a younger age. I'd bet Velano is the best player coming out of this draft, this season. Not even sure it'll be that close.

I'd bet Velano is the best player coming out of this draft, this season. Not even sure it'll be that close. Bowers was also the best player on his team & if you go by the MVP award best player in his league as the leagues leading scorer. Veleno was 2nd on his team in scoring, 13th in the Quebec (3rd among 1st year Q draft eligible players), and had 3 other 50+ point players that all scored 20+ goals which he did not. Those 3 players include a Providence commit and the 7th overall pick this season (Arnaud Durandeau) There was also accusations of phantom assists going to Veleno in LSL & he finished the season riding pine (4 points in 12 playoff games) whereas Bowers had one of the best playoffs we've seen for a 15 year old since Crosby. I don't know who will look better than who as they're both going to pretty good teams with a ton of depth that they have to work their way through but the above is some food for thought if you're going based on numbers.

CBs handling of Dubois last year obviously paying dividends. Bowers knows he can earn a spot in the top 6 if he plays good enough.

I think your going to be way wrong on this prediction.

One little note Crosby didn't play in the midget league as a 15yo. He went to Shattuck at 15. He was 14yo the year he ripped it up in midget and took the subways all the way to the national final.

Nobody has said Veleno doesn't have a ton of potential or upside, that's kind of assumed by his status as the first ever exceptional draftee into the league. And Andrews had some hype due to his NCAA declaration but he still ended up being a very good player despite being slower to develop. In my opinion he sacrificed personal stats for the good of his team. Could have asked out to be sent to a team where he could play a bigger role but chose not too in order to try and win championships. I'd say Halifax is pleased in the investment in him as a late 1st rounder.

Bowers is going to be a star in the Q 100%. I'm that confident and I am not an Eagles fan. Veleno has more potential down the road but both could end up with good NHL careers.
I've seen both play lots.

They don't play in tournaments like the Canada Winter Games, Quebec Gatorade Challenge, and a regular season schedule that is released on their team & leagues website for you to look at and go watch a player being touted as a potential exceptional status or best player in Nova Scotia. I don't know who you think you're talking to but you don't know any of us. I can't speak for everyone else but I know I've seen Bowers play dozens of times since he was a 13 year old first year bantam from his Major Gulls days to 20+ times he's sported a Team Nova Scotia jersey. Veleno wasn't hidden either, he was front & center for Team Quebec at the Canada Winter Games & Gatorade Challenge and on top of that I was able to watch him with LSL 4 out of the 5 times I was in Montreal this year.

The season schedule is out and The Eagles start September 11 in Bathurst, then our home opener is September 18 against SJ. Also instead of the 2 and 4 o'clock games for Sunday it's now a 3pm start. theqmjhl.ca/schedule/seasons/179/
