1st 2nd 3rd Que 4th 6th Sha 7th Que 9th 10th Bat 11th 13th 14th
Would be nice to add a couple of top 3 picks, but not a lot of asset to trade and still a big hole in nets. Sweeney is a guy that could be a good trade chip for a 1st rounder.

Can't see Sweeney fetching a 2015 first rounder at the draft - too much uncertainty still at that point over whether he will be back in the league next season at that point. More likely that he be traded in September or at Xmas for 2016 picks ...

Might be a conditional trade...or as you said possibly for 2016 picks, though that delays the infusion of young talent that is desperately needed. If you look at players younger than 19 next year...not a lot to hang your hat on that doesn't have big question marks...Leger Murphy and Askew have top 6 skill but all 3 have shown shaky work ethic. Jacob will be an 18 year old rookie and he is tiny, can he be a top 6? Tesink could be a #3-4, on defense after that it's pretty bare unless McInnis and Krys show up, Krys being a longshot. In nets there is nothing much for the present or future... Euro draft could add a core piece but the pick will be pretty late. Not too many guys in the 1998-1997 age group that you can etch in stone as core players.

I know most will disagree with me, but I think they should look at shopping Connor Garland, they would surely get some top picks and prospects back. I know he put up a lot of points this year, but honestly I don't get what all the hype is about, seems like many of his points were secondary assist, reminds me of Yannick Riendeau, doubt he ever makes the NHL, he is small and really not that fast, has great hands though I will give him that. He has 2 years left to play junior so no doubt there would be teams that would pay a lot for him, I think this trade could help set the Cats up for a few years to come.

I don't think Garland is going anywhere next year. I think if they were to shop him, midseason next year as a 19 year old might be best...teams are more likely to overpay at midseason than the draft. He would accelerate the rebuild...but I don't think they will do it...

I would think you wait until at least Xmas to look at offers on Garland - by then you will have a better sense on whether or not he is likely to be in the league at 20, and a better sense of what kind of team we have in 2015/16 and in 2016/17.

Unless they have a monster off season or a lot of guys show up in camp looking a lot better, right now they seem to have too many holes to contend the next 2 years. Next year looks like a step back given the loss of Dubeau(likely a dropoff in nets) plus Barbashev at C(again no #1 guy ready to step in) plus some pretty key guys on defense, Tassi(mostly PP) and very likely Sweeney or Johnston(assuming you have to use an OA spot on a goalie). I think you can overcome the losses on D especially if McInnis reports, but up front, it will be really hard to replace Barbashev and same in nets with Dubeau(without trading away any big assets). PLUS the next 2 years, teams like CB , PEI and SJ will be peaking, all 3 have a lot of young impact talent. Bathurst has some young talent plus a 2nd overall pick. The division should be a lot tougher than this year in 15-16 and 16-17.

He was undrafted in the NHL draft last year and wasn't selected for World Jr.s. Most fans of the other maritime teams hate him. A large portion of the cats fans on this board don't like him. From the last 3 months on there seems to actually be a small minority (including myself) on this board that people that actually enjoy watching him play. Its kind of sad really, he's probably the most talented player we've seen in years. Have no clue what you are talking about with the secondary assists, maybe you are listening to Roger White doing the play by play or something. I wish there was a faster way to pull all the stats up but I am pretty confident a good portion of his assists were primary seeing as I've seen him setup a ton of plays with my own eyes. A good portion of Barbashev goals were all on passes by Garland. His vision is his best asset.

Graland has his flaws, but one of them is not piling up secondary assists, he has ridiculously good vision and passing ability. Probably the best in the Q, that's why he won the scoring title.

Here and in other social media, every loss was basically his fault. While you had others defend him, like Stéphane Paquette on Rogers who said he doesn't understand why it's so difficult for people to recognise what he's done. For every game where his play may have contributed to a loss (not saying he's the cause), there were 10 where his play contributed to the win or making it close. Usually this type of treatment is reserved for an offensive defenceman.
