USHL players taken in Phase one from list added. One thing to remember is the protected list. When you take lots of picks hoping they show later including lots of Americans it back logs and leaves little room year after year to do it again until you start dropping some. The year they added 2 Rds to the draft and making mandatory that each team select at least 2 US born players ... I suggested they expand from 50 to 60 on the protected list. If you add two per year, the longest they can stay there is 5 years, so 10 spots total. Most teams cut players loose that have never reported, once they finish their 19 YO season ... so no need in protecting 10 ... just 8. Most teams do very little to get the US players to report and hold out little hope that they will. So what you are really doing is cutting Chicoutimi's protected list down to about 42, with 8 spots taken up by guys that won't report. They can release them earlier to open up space, but I think the whole idea was to keep these players under the control of the Q. So ... why not add a special US player protected list for each team ... and allow say 5 spots only on this list. Any additional US players you want to protect would have to be done on the 50 man list. Any player playing in the Q would also come under the 50 man list ... not the special protected list. Not a bad idea, you should e-mail the Q.

I'll start off and predict the first 4 Wildcats selections:
1st rounder: Peyton Hoyt Quebec’s 3rd rounder: Walter Flower Moncton 3rd rounder: Ethan Crossman 4th round: Keith Petruzelli

I wonder whether they could be swayed from the NCAA or they will hold strong like O'Leary. Also, it seems like Dawe has taken a real tumble down the rankings from when people thought he would go top 3 or 5 last year and now is only ranked in the 3rd round based on the rankings of Central Scouting.

Not too many local or New Brunswick guys rated again. With Crossman committing to the Black Bears we should definitely try and draft him with a late pick if he's still available. Local kid

Now, on top of that, add 15yr olds which can be taken every round, this will increase the number of projects to protect. I know Halifax have drafted Americans and dropped them the next draft to make room.

Shannon loves USA players, but he must to watch Quebec players too. 31 of the 36 listed by the CSR come from Quebec.I want the best player available for us regardless where they come from.

Certainly seems like a daunting task for the Cats over the next few years when you see that EIGHT of the top ten picks belong to all the other Maritime teams. Not to mention that some of these teams have had multiple 1st round picks in some of the recent drafts as well.
We'll have a very good idea at how effective the new scouting department is at finding gems in the later rounds in the next 2-3 years. Obviously getting more and more American kids to report will help the process as well.

Those teams with the extra picks also have a strong core of young players already contributing or who should be... SJ-Noel Marsh Joseph SDM Green Chabot Zboril CB-Dubois Svechnikov Lalonde Leveille PEI-Sprong Chlapik Goulet Deschenes Thompson Henley Bat-Pickard Popov Maher Brisebois The Maritime division will be tough the next 2-3 years.

Stole this from HF Boards. Scoutman was kind enough to post his QMJHL Mock Draft. He predicts the Wildcats to select Anthony Poulin with their 1st round pick. IMO, he has the potential to be a 50 goal, 100 point player in the Q at 19. hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1897929

That's a great little article. Very enlightening. For the record, I've certainly changed my mind about Garland. He seems like a really bright kid, and a good guy.

Nice article but so small you can't read it... My optometrist's office is on Elmwood Drive. I can see about getting you in for a consultation if you're interested.
