The Rocket must have gotten the sign for free, if they were to spend money put in to something the fans can enjoy radio broadcast , replay screens, a good wireless mic. Things for the fan not for exposer on the outside. That's a proverbial cheap shot. The Rocket did something good, they put the logo on the building, and all you can say is "They must have gotten the sign for free". How the hell do you know that? Dumb thing to say. Actually I had someone asked me today if the Rocket got that sign for free and they used to deal with the Rocket at the corporate level. You may think that it's a cheap shot, but the Rocket are perceived as being cheap by quite a few people and the Rocket only have themselves to blame for that. Perhaps that sign is the start of the Rocket spending some money and if that is the case, they are going to have to do some hard work to change that perception. That reputation is not going to change just because they went out and got a sign, they have to do alot more than that to change people's opinions about them.

It's a gratuitous, cynical remark, and there's nothing to back it up. Rocket have enough problems without this mean-spiritedness and negativity.

And who is/are to blame for the Rocket problems and the negativity? You're complicating matters unnecessarily. The only person to blame for a dumb remark is the person who made the remark. The Rocket put up a sign on the building, and first thing a person says is...."They probably didn't pay for it"; That's cynical and negative. If you don't understand that, then I can't explain it to you any better than that. End of story.

What's to understand.....someone made an offhand cynical, negative remark on a message board about a hockey team, it's not the first time it has happened and it won't be the last. Nobody got hurt and it wasn't an offensive post. Do you honestly think that nobody makes these kinds of remarks about the Rocket or any other team?

had to comment on the jab about the mic...both we have are great brand names, AKG and TOA...issue is not that they are poor microphones, we think the issue may have laid with the batteries we were using as corny as that sounds...we upgraded the batteries and it seems to be working better...same principle as powering your sweet remote control monster truck you get christmas morning with cheapy cheap batteries from Dollarama....you have an awesome time for 37 seconds....or the same scenario with a digital camera...you get 3 pictures and those batteries are dead
we used the wireless for both intermissions on sunday's game and they worked a hell of a lot better then previously...so we may stick with that as our underlying issues and i cross it off as resolved (knock on wood) until next time.....

I just noticed this last night.. looks okay I guess
I don't think it's a sign things are changing, nor do I care how much they may or may not have spent on it
Not sure why coreyapple is so up in arms about a single remark .. only one person said it .. step off your soapbox slowly so as not to hurt yourself

Not like no one has taken a negative swipe at the team before today.

Not like no one has taken a negative swipe at the team before today. Of course, but usually, there's been a reason for taking a swipe. With the Rocket sign on the building, there's no reason at all. That's the difference.

Personally I think the sign looks great. A little over due but hey........ better late than not at all. Baby steps towards change are not a bad thing. Will take some time for the Rocket organization to regain the publics confidence but feel they are heading in the right direction.

The sign does look great - it's a question of establishing a presence in the city, and that's a start. People are underestimating the importance of stuff like that.

Maybe the off-handed comment comes from the fact it has taken them so many years to try to establish a presence ... a sign should have been up from day one. Your words "thats a start" echo loudly because the start of your team happened several years ago.
