But you also have to see Savard's side of the arguement. His scouting staff that sees these Atlantic Canada players must have given the recommedation to draft these Atlantic Canadian players ... and MacDougall is one of them. If MacDougall didn't think a kid like MacLean was good enough to be drafted in the 1st round and Street in the 2nd round ... did he say that in the pre-draft meetings and at the draft table ? Thats the 9th and 27th overall pick.
Macdougall didn't see them as being among the 22 or 23 best Atlantic Canadians (excludining limitations by positions) let alone in the Top 27 of the entire Q region. I see something wrong there and so does Savard. The problem is either with the Rocket scouting staff ... or with MacDougall.
I really don't see where a 16 YO kid that isn't getting much icetime on a Q team is developing less than a kid still playing MAAA ... some of those kids on that U-17 team are playing MAAA. That Q kid is in a much higher level of conditioning and getting better coaching (in theory) and getting a great hockey education.
So I guess if MacLean was drafted far too high ... why didn't MacDougall say something about that ?

I wonder if people would rather Savard hadn't stuck up for his players and just let one of his scouts off for overlooking them? It likely could have been handled better, but I for one would rather see Savard speak up then to not do anything at all. To me losing one of the team's scouts is better then having Savard turn his back on our top prospects. It's not necessarily what he did but how he did it. Supporting your players is one thing but professional conduct in another. If in fact, what was reported was accurate.

guess the caps will get no help from the rocket around some players. not that they ever did. if anybody thinks savard cares about hockey on p.e.i. give your head a shake.

I see Savards argument and do like him sticking up for his players I just don't think he should be firing scouts or interefering in the selection process of a coach of another team (in this case MacDougall).. and who knows whether MacDougall said anything about Maclean and Street during the draft meetings... who knows how much input Serge ever gave Kenny to begin with.. not me I do know Kenny tho and think losing him over this is a bad thing for this franchise. Score might not think this is an issue but it is... the way this franchise handles themselves publically is a major issue right now .. they have a very fragile fanbase and every public hit hurts

I can't really comment on the players selected verses the rocket draft picks but if there was an insinuation by Serge that his guys are better than the Island kids selected, he may not have an agrument there as I know that in the past it was a requirement to take a minimum of 3 players per province on the team. If that still applies then the PEI selections are justified. NOT SURE though if that rule still applies

That's a pretty crappy rule if it is in place. I'm all for the inclusion of fellow Islanders but I always thought the idea of picking teams was picking the best players available.

The rule does in fact exist, and there is a breakdown of the required number of players from each province

I couldn't believe what I was reading this morning What the hell, Kenny is the COACH of Team Atlantic, not Savard.... these guys were given an opportunity to show what they had at the training camp for team Atlantic and obviously they didn't fit into the plans. Just because Ken is the scout for the Rocket doesn't mean he had to pick their #1 pick.... he is the COACH of the team, he decides along with his coaching staff, period. I also thought the part of not selecting Doyle for the Q team that played against the Russians, who knows why he was left off the roster but Savard almost seems offended that his players aren't being looked at. You can put the "Savard looking after his players"spin on this but wow what a way to deal with it

But no reason to complain about it I guess.

One scout doesnt get all the say, its usually done by somewhat a vote, perhaps MacDougall wasnt as high on MacLean and Street as others were.

Big stick to prove a point.. It was his team he was picking...maybe he didnt think MacLean was good enough to make it... I dont think he was proving a point, he was just picking a team.

I thought that you were mentioning Street and MacLean....I think that everyone is forgetting about how Street must be feeling with this as well....he was doing very well up to this year...even your HPO site liked him....
