although i think gelinas has outplayed lafleur and earned his starts, i am very surprised he starts tonight. what, if anything can we read into this? 4 in a row,,, For one, he earned the starts. Two, Chouinard may want to see if he can handle the workload and see how he comes back from a game where he got the yank. Depending on what the "plan" is come trade period, would this team be that much worse by going with Gelinas rather then Lafleur? Trade the main assets....dont make the mistake of holding on to them. Build around the youngsters: Doyle-17 Southy-17 Kana-17 MacLean-17 DesRoches-17 Deighan-17 Mosher-17 McKinley-18

Game was alright tonight.....not much excitement from my standpoint anyhow.
I thought that Kana played well, even without his goal. He was hitting again, which is his game, and that was missing from him in the past few games.
Lachaine with another strong game. Nice play to give Kana the puck to send him in alone.
Gelinas was solid...again.
Latal can't buy a goal. As he went in alone, I think the whole building knew he was going top shelf with the backhand.....just an inch too high.
DesRoches with a strong showing as well. Really liking his game.
Mo had a couple solid shifts, but other then that he really looked uninterested IMO.
Good to get the 2pts, as it will be hard to do so on Friday.

Calm after storm Goaltending, defence propels the P.E.I. Rocket to victory over the Moncton Wildcats in rescheduled game CHARLES REID The Guardian
It was a game that almost didn’t happen.
And maybe a fierce winter storm that pounded the Maritimes on Tuesday and postponed the game a day helped the P.E.I. Rocket as it notched a 3-1 win over the Moncton Wildcats Wednesday at the Civic Centre.
On the ice, goaltending and defence dominated a fast-moving, physical contest typical of two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams that don’t like each other, with pushing and shoving after most whistles and lots of hits.
“You can feel it out there,” said Rocket defenceman Bryan Main with a smile. “There’s a lot of . . . frustration or a lot of tension between the two teams, but, you know, you just got to battle hard out there and do what you have to do to win the game.”
Main came over from Gatineau in the off-season.
His first taste of the Confederation Bridge rivalry came in a 2-0 Moncton win in late September.
A 4-3 Rocket victory in Moncton last month tied the season series 1-1.
Wednesday’s win gives P.E.I. a leg up in the six-game season set.
In a scoreless first period, Rocket goalie Marc-Antoine Gélinas, in his fourth straight start, stopped 11 shots, including four on a late Wildcats power play.
While on other end, Moncton’s Nicola Riopel faced eight shots and caught a break off a Martin Latal breakaway as Latal pinged a backhand shot off the crossbar and into the stands.
Brett Morrison scored the lone second-period goal off a scrum in front but not before it was reviewed.
The teams had their chances in the period but mainly on the power play.
Moncton fired five shots on Gélinas while the Rocket snapped 11 of its 20 shots at Riopel in the second.
Moncton’s Pierre-Marc Lessard tied the game just under 3 1/2 minutes into the third with help from Matt Marquardt and Clyde River’s Randy Cameron, spoiling Gélinas’ shutout bid.
Then with three minutes remaining Rocket forward Matthew Lachaine broke his stick on a shot block so he improvised on linemate Jan Kana’s 2-1 goal.
“I saw a channel and just pushed the puck with my skate,” said Lachaine, on his first of two helpers.
Morrison added an empty netter for a 3-1 finish.
Gélinas saw his record rise to 7-4 while Nicola Riopel dropped to 7-15.

The game was good tonight. The first star was wrong. It totally should of been Matthew Lachaine. He had two great helpers. The stickless assist was brilliant. I agree with trading the talent that will not be back next year. Build the team for next year and hopefully go far in the playoffs next season. I think Bryan Main should be held on to. He will make a great overage next year.

decent game tonight. we should have put the game away in the second period when we played most of the period on the power play. we were lucky it didnt come back to haunt us.
our dmen played one of their better games otnight. i dont think we had a 2-1 rush against us, which is saying a lot.
nice win , poor crowd. big test coming up on friday. lets hope we have our ! game and we can pull off a huge upset.
go rocket go

coon-come is still only 16 as well I think Coon-Come is a 17 year old as far as his Junior age is concerned, is he not? As for the game, it was fairly boring for the most part. Moncton are a pretty terrible team and we should be able to beat them for the last playoff spot depending on how things go at the trade deadline. I thought Gallant played a really excellent game. He made a lot of really nice passes and he was playing his in your face style to a T. Lachaine, Main, Kana, Southorn, Gervais and of course Gelinas all played really well too. Two points is two points I suppose, but playing like that against top teams isn't going to get us too far, that's for sure.

Great to get the win.
I still don't think we played very well. Defense was better but lots of room to improve. Too often people just walk out from the boards or corner and someone waves a stick like a wand hoping the puck disappears.
I think I'm really gonna hate the new "system". We have given up fore checking, one man sits in front of the goal and 4 guys wait in the neutral zone. If they try that non sense with Halifax Friday they will get blown away. Halifax will blow through center dump and chase, pick it up and control play in our end all night.
On that note why don't we ever dump and chase. Even once in a while would force the D back and give you a bit more room to cross the blue line. We slow our own rush down because guys don't move the puck ahead quick enough and everyone ends up slowing and moving laterally while someone makes a move to gain the zone.
The guys have to begin to play smarter hockey as well. For example Walker had the puck along the boards 14 seconds left in the second down a man no support to pass to , what does he do? Takes a shot from a bad angle the puck comes up to the blue line Moncton goes the other way for a chance at the end of the period. Smart play carry it to the corner protect the puck and kill 5 or 6 seconds maybe get a face off in their end. Don't set up their break out. It's little things like that that add up and make a difference as to whether you win or lose consistently.
All in all I'm happy with two points but did not see anywhere near enough improvement in the level of play to have any confidence that this team can be a consistent winner.

As opposed to when we were a forecheck first team with Jean's system? I think we're forechecking a lot more now then we were when Jean was coaching...

I know we did not fore check under Jean's system. With the new coach I hoped we'd see a change, and we did for a while but last night it was gone. Back to some form of trap.

It seemed like it depended on the situation to me. When there was an opportunity to forecheck I think they were, but when it would put them out of position defensively they dropped back. I found that MacLean, Gallant, McKinley, Paynter, Kana and Lachaine especially were all forechecking hard for the whole game, when they were on the ice.
