Too bad the Heroes of Hockey game in Jan wasn't close to a Rocket game. Could have maybe gotten Trottier, Billy Smith and Habs fav Chris Nilan to make an appearance to drop the puck and sign autographs inbetween the periods. Yeah it is a little weird to bring up the lease only a year or two into it. If it was getting near the end of it I could see the ploy of going through media to put pressure on the City. Fact is a winning team brings fans....not free noisemakers, calendars, magnets, etc. and they know that and have admitted that. Show the fans that you have a plan regarding the development of the team and sell the potential moves about to be made player-wise and fans will buy it if it presented well and it makes sense to them. How many times have you made your decision to go to a hockey game based on who was dropping the puck ?

How many times have you made your decision to go to a hockey game based on who was dropping the puck ? The whole point is that if Savard Jr was to bring in some of Sr's hockey buddies for an autograoh session, say during the intermissions, some casual fans might be enticed to come. We're talking about, in this particular instance, drawing in some casual fans and exposing them to a game day experience that will make them want to come back. Have you ever been to a game at the CCC in the last year. If you haven't been, then you mightn't understand what the game day experience is like. And you might not care what goes on in the stands....or between periods. I've been to games in Moncton, and the experience has always been a good one. I like what they do to get the crowd involved (the kiss cam is a good example). They have video (something that is sorely lacking here). They have an announcer that goes through the crowd, and gets people involved. These things, along with the game itself, make the experience all that much more enjoyable. That's one of the things that's needed at the CCC. Obviously, the on-ice product is the most important thing.

lets face it , the main reason there are not fans in the rink is due to the lack of product and excitement. i go to all the games , but i talk to people that use to but do not go now. the main reason is ....the games are boring...
i can certainly say the last three years have been rough on any fan. this year is a little better , but not much. there is no question that i do not find the excitement in the game myself, so i can imagine what people coming in for single games think.
we have seen Halifax as a top team, then drop and now have a top team again while we have been "rotten" (for sake of a better word).
common complaints i have heard from ex fans...
1) games are not exciting
2) off ice presentation has gone down hill..i.e. dressed ushers, video screen replays, presence of rocket management
3) music is too loud
4) team is not competitive
these are in no particular order but this is what is being told to me.

I've heard the same.
The music sounds better though... but there has to be a volume that suits all. Darcy is hidden from the speakers and therefore hasn't got much of an idea of just how loud it is. Likely using mp3's which have bitrate going up and down from song to song. I like it loud but the game vs Moncton was brutally loud.

Good post. I heard a new complaint/reason today when I ran into a friend of mine who used to have season tickets a couple of seasons ago, "why go to the games if they aren't going to be here". He still goes to an occaisonal game, but after reading Savard's comments about attendance he is getting the impression that the Rocket isn't going to be a long term thing in Charlottetown. Not sure whether I agree with him or not, but it made me wonder how many other people are having the same thoughts/attitude towards the Rocket when Savard mentions the attendance and how the Rocket are losing money as often as he has. Doing it too often might also turn people away.

Yo Steve UL....I go to watch my teamplay hockey. Couldn't care less who was dropping the puck, but rather it was an idea to lure a few casual bodies there. If I knew a couple of Hall of Famers were there I'd be going anyways but I would find it to be a pleasant surprise and maybe go and meet them.
Not enough shit to deal with on the Moncton board I guess and if you READ the rest of the psot you saw that I said freebies don't bring fans in....a winning hockey team does!

I wonder if a Park and Ride program like the Fogdevils have would work here on PEI? Say one bus from down East and one coming from up West. It might help with Attendance.

How about some good consistent hockey(which we seen of late) and some more aggressive positive (not whining)advertising about getting out to the CCC and supporting your local Q team.

you know, we are fans that go on a regular basis can play a big part on people coming....
i know i have been asked how the game was many times and my response has not been good. we now need to say...the team is coming on, it was a great game, you should have been there...etc.etc.
word of mouth plays a BIG part in any persons decision to go. for me i will be passing on the GOOD news...

Too true Wallee...While good news travels fast, bad news travels faster.
If each die-hard season ticket holder told their friends, collegues at work, etc about what a great game they just saw word might just get around for the 2nd half.
Like yourself I get to work the next day and at least a dozen people ask me how was the game. Word of mouth is the original "facebook".

There are a lot of things we, as fans, can do. No home game til the 28th of December. We've got 2.5 weeks to do something. Will we?? I think I'll buy five or ten tickets, and give them out as Xmas gifts. That will at least get some asses in the seats for one game, and hopefully, they'll like what they see, and come back on their own. Sometimes, all it takes is a ittle encouragement. ;D

you know, we are fans that go on a regular basis can play a big part on people coming.... Not free....I'm paying for them. So the Rocket don't lose out there. Plus, these people will buy food and drink, 50-50 tickets, maybe merchandise. So, it's not like they won't be spending money. The whole idea is to get them there, try to make their experience enjoyable, and encourage them to come back the next game. I don't have a lot of money to begin with, so that's a big sacrfice for me....but one I'm willing to make. At least I'll be doing something to get some people there in hopes that they come back. But then again, talk is cheap, eh wallee?? What's your plan of action?? Care to share it?? Maybe the rest of us regular fans can use it as well.
