In January of 2013, GMs of this league voted overwhelmingly to accept the following rule amendment: Following the 2013 draft, an IR spot will be added to every roster. This spot will score no points. A player can only be added in that spot if they are not currently playing in the QMJHL. They must have missed two consecutive games to qualify. Upon playing their second consecutive game on returning to the lineup, the player must be activated within five days. If the player is not activated within those five days, that player will become a free agent. Occasionally players become active and I'll notice they're still on IR, and I'll send a quick PM to the owner reminding them that the player must be activated. That said, I'm not responsible for managing anyone else's roster.
Olivier Mathieu was drafted by Saint John and was understandably unable to crack a deep Sea Dogs lineup early in the season. He did get a call up later in November and should have been activated then, but wasn't, and had since qualified for IR again.
He was Traded in December as a key part of the deal that brought Callum Booth to Saint John. Mathieu has dressed in consecutive games for Quebec, and as such was required to be activated 5 days after the second game (which was on Dec 30). Mathieu was not activated by January 4, and as such has become subject to a waiver claim by Allardville.
As the rule was passed, I can't deny the claim. I don't like it, but it is what is written, even if it's not what I intended. It may be a prick move, but it's a legal prick move, and a quick look at league history shows Pens is always looking to win by whatever means necessary.
I would suggest that we may want to institute a change to this rule going forward, but unless someone can find a reason not to allow the claim, Olivier Mathieu goes from Westmount to Allardville, sans compensation

Honestly I don't care what you guys decide but something needs to be done. What's the alternative if he wants to keep Mathieu? Drop the guy he added? I'll gladly take Asselin instead.
Bottom line is while I might look like the bad guy here, I'm not the one that's been cheating/neglecting the rules.

I don't think you're the bad guy at all, I don't blame you for making the claim. I also don't blame Westmount, and think it's a stretch to call it cheating. The player I have on IR I've been following pretty closely (and will have to activate very soon), but if it were a 16 year old rookie, I may not hear he's started playing unless I thought to look.
When I say I don't like it, it's not your action, it's the way that I presented the rule. I intended the rule as written to be a type of waiver claim, I guess. Westmount has a guy on IR that doesn't qualify, then someone could make a claim on him, and Westmount would have the opportunity to either activate or drop the player in question, or work out a trade. Activation would most likely require the drop of another player, unless Westmount had someone on the active roster who was currently IR eligible. It was almost intended to have a way for me to push the policing of the IR usage back onto the other GMs. That's not how it got ratified (because that's not how I wrote it), and that's fine, but maybe we want to change it.

It is what it is. I missed the fact that he is in Quebec now and playing. I probably brought it to the attention of Irving Homie when I asked what Teasdale would cost and said I had Mathieu available. My fault no one else's but I do not like it either. I am planning on doing some roster rearranging in the near future but what can ya do. It is shitty. For the record though I do not have Asselin!! I also take exception of calling me a cheater!! That is low and I would expect better from you Irving really. Enjoy your free pick up.

Figure out a way to fix your roster for it to be fair to the other 14 GMS. I'm not gonna put up a fight for a guy that has what 1 Q point?
I made the move to prove a point more than gain an advantage. There was an illegal roster twice. You had two opportunities to protect Mathieu from being automatically dropped.
Let's just fix this so it doesn't happen again. The rule is fine in my opinion but maybe the GMs need a rule refresher.

Normally id agree it's a prick move because I know how much of a prick Pens is, but in this case, we can't really say that. Basically all he did was follow things and keep an eye out for players in the league, and he did it better than the owner of the player did.
I don't see any reason to change the rules. If you don't pay attention, this is what could happen. Its on the owner of the team to stay on top of his/her players status, and if they don't, they could lose him for nothing.
Only thing we may want to look at is when you put someone on IR there might be a way to state that you wish to have them eligible once they are back in the league, and state who you would drop in that case. Then all you have to stay on top of is who you will drop once your player is back. This way its easier to settle things like this and easier to score them for BB.
Nice move Pens. *throws up in mouth*

You're actively looking for trades so you looked at your roster so you knew he was on IR. You knew he got traded... I didn't call you a cheater, I said it was cheating/neglecting the rules. I prefer to call it neglect because I don't think you intended to do it but it was very easy for you to see you were breaking the rules but you chose to turn a blind eye. I'm not trying to insult anyone, the only person in this pool I would ever insult is Johnstrow cause the guy deserves a Every insult thrown at him.

I did not turn a blind eye to it. I do not follow as closely as I should I guess the other divisions and like I said that is on me. I am fine with you picking up the player. Well done seriously. If I was smart enough to do it I would. I do not put the time in that many others do in following the entire league. I do try and stay active yes and thanks for realizing that. I do mainly follow the Maritime Division. I honestly did not realize that he had dressed for Quebec. Like I said to you in the pm I knew he was traded but I couldn't even tell you were he was traded so how could I "chose to turn a blind eye."? Anyways I am done with this make an example out of me. I am fine with that seriously. Thanks for the response and now let's move on and have fun. Life is to short.

So what's the deal here? Isn't the traded deadline soon? Shouldn't we figure this out?

So what's the deal here? Isn't the traded deadline soon? Shouldn't we figure this out? Someone can propose an amendment to the rules if they want the rule changed. It won't be retroactive though; Mathieu is Allardville property.
Trade deadline is Feb 6 at 9PM
