Cats drafting since 2010...

[Captain Obvious]

The Cats were a very good drafting team in the 2000s...all of a sudden in 2010 it went bad and has not recovered...here is a look at top 5 round picks...

4-Zielonka
4-Penny
5-Trudeau
5-Tremaine
Others: Thibeau(11)

From 6 early picks, only Penny was a true hit. Roussy sputtered here, then had a decent career in the Q but never really had the work ethic to max his potential.

2-Hodge
3-Pitre
4-Centis-Jorge
4-Belliveau
4-Labbe
5-Flinn
Others: Johnston(6) Vatrano(8) made the NHL but never came to Moncton.

Overall a really terrible draft, Hodge was part of the big Veilleux/Dubeau trade. Flinn has a nice career in the OHL. Cats got next to nothing from those 7 picks.

Others: Garland(60 and Simpson(9)

This draft was better but still a lot of busts. Getting garland to quit the USHL was huge, Simpson was a great pick. Gagne was part of the Danault trade but mostly a throw in. Johnson was a good player. Still too many whiffs in round 3.

Solid draft but just so few picks in top 5 rounds hurts.

What a trainwreck, very little from this draft with 5 picks in the top 5 rounds. A lot of busts and players thrown into trades. Ugly!

Cyr looks like a solid pick, but followed up by THREE 3rd round busts. McKenna and Waite show promise.

Others: 3rd round is a graveyard once again. Hudson shows promise but not much else.

Only 1/10 on 3rd rounders...mind blowingly terrible! If you look at those 3rd rounds there have been about 70-80 good Q players and 10-12 NHL draft picks.

Murthy is more of a .5 than a 1...1.5/10!

Flinn was involved in the trade with Sherbrooke for the #1 pick in the import draft to get Barbashev. So they certainly got value out of that. Otherwise the 2011 draft is atrocious.

It's hard to pick out any drafts that weren't bad.

Hopefully this new scouting staff can figure it out this year.

You can't point to one reason the picked so poorly...there are 3-4 pretty big factors...all around bad picks...too many NCAA guys that never came plus way too many picks traded away for no real impact. If you trade half your draft and build a team that wins a title or goes to the finals, then fine...but when it flops in round 1...
