They still have high picks, they are just not in control of them. First pick of their own this year is not until the 7th round, but they still have at least 1 pick in every round until then, plus an extra 2nd. It's not like the cupboards are bare. Plus the trade of the 1st rounder next year was to aquire a young player in MacDonald fill a void as we lacked quality in the 17YO age as well as had no power forwards. They didn't just use it to trade down for more picks which was the issue in the past. Shannon has admitted to the mistake of not taking Anderson at the draft 2 years ago in a few articles.

It's this draft's trade that I can't grasp. Moving out of the 1st round for Jacques + 1st QUE 2018 in order to give a divisional rival arguably the top defenceman in the draft who fit in with our age group. Looks even worse not with Quebec atop the league.

Looks even worse not with Quebec atop the league. Yup, that trade and the multiple trades from 9th to 50th overall in 2016 both stink. It's like collecting 5 nickels and 2 dimes instead of a toonie!
