If the Wildcats succeed in their bid for the 2019 Memorial Cup, how would these rosters compare? Interesting to compare this year's squad to the 2005 team at the same juncture in time. Major acquisitions happened at the end of the season 2005, throughout the summer and at Christmas 2005/2006(Memorial cup year). I know there may have been a few trades/FA's that I'm not remembering, but this should be the bulk of it. If memory serves me correctly, this is how it all shook out.
Dupuis (from Gatineau in the offseason) filled the first line center position
Spencer (FA outwest) filled the 4th line enforcer role
Morehouse (FA I think?) filled the 4th line C role
Marquart (FA Ontario) filled the 4th line physical role
Bourdon (From Val Dor @ Christmas) filled 1st pairing D
Yandle (From Gatineau in the offseason) filled 1st pairing D
Macdonald (FA Offseason) filled 2nd pairing D
Belanger (from Baie Comeau @ Christmas) replaced Adam as 3rd pairing D
Tordjman (From Victoriaville @ Christmas) replaced Blanchard as #1 Goalie
Sniderman (FA Ontario) replace Blouin as backup Goalie
2004/2005 (Christmas trading period players who were on the Wildcats)
Forward's: Pineault (19) - ? - Goulet (19)
Marchand (17)-Chabot (17)-Karsums (19)
Samsom (18)-Gaudet (19)-Hepditch (20)
? - ? - ?
Defence & Keepers: ? - ?
? -Bartulis (19)
Welton (19)-J.S.Adam (18)
JC.Blanchard (18)
Blouin (19)
The Cats essentially acquired a #1 center, 3 top 2 pairing D's, a #1 Goalie and a ton of roster/depth players in a very short period of time.
2017/2018 (Christmas trading period players who are on the Wildcats)
Forward's: Macdonald (18)- ? -Cyr (19)
Pelletier (17)-Khovanov (18)-McKenna (19)
Hudson (18)-Seitz (19)-Pataki (20)
Blackmore (18)-Capannelli (19)-Kuzmin (19)
Defence & Keepers: ? - ?
Sylvestre (20)-LeCoutre (19)
Tucker (18)-Aspirot (19)
Grametbauer (20)
Waite (19)
Other than the obvious "?" (Eg: 2 1st pairing D) positions, what do you think are the main area's that need upgrading to make this current roster competitive enough to host the MC?
Do we look behind, the same or ahead of the 2004/2005 Christmas roster that hosted the memorial cup if we do player/roster comparisons?
