It’s been two seasons since Conor Garland moved on from the QMJHL.
Since then, no player on the Wildcats has worn number 8. Could this be a sign of a jersey retirement OR just a coincidence?
Thoughts.

Jersey is too small. Number retirements seem to be few and far between lately, and they definitely don't seem to be happening for recent players. But it seems other players don't want to wear numbers from those junior hockey superstars. 22, 27 and 31 haven't been used in Halifax since MacKinnon, Drouin and Fucale left as examples.

In Québec, we saw #10 and #19 being wear again, but not the 73.

I would retire Garland, Roger, Bernier and Crawford's number.

Funny how this usually goes, almost like they take the number out of circulation until they see how the future plays out. After Dubois was traded last year, Laferriere arrived and was wearing #81. Isn't being worn this year either.

They should retire Ettinger's He was only here like a year. Plus he was a great leader but not an impact player.

I would agree - if we were ever looking to honour a pure leader type, to me, the first guy in line would be Christian Gaudet - local guy, late draft pick, made the team through hard work and determination and eventually was captain for two years and won a President's Cup. Otherwise, if we go the star player route, to me Garland is the most obvious choice, followed by Crawford, Bernier and Roger in that order.

At this point I would be pleasantly surprised if the Cats put together any sort of package/pre game ceremony that honoured an old star Wildcat. When was the last time the Cats ever pulled something similar off? This season seemed to have all of this "last season in the coliseum" marketing behind it with articles from the business side talking up them honouring teams of the past and how special it would be. I was expecting at least one special jersey night (Hawks) but that seems to not be happening. Missed marketing opportunity there. No offense to the 1982 Moncton High Purple Knights hockey team but its come across as a lazy last minute effort. Other than that they've scrounged up a few former Wildcats that live locally like Kevin Glode & Bruce Graham whos wife works for the team. Perhaps they are saving some more impressive appearances for the final regular season game..

I still have one of those 1st year jerseys.

The lack of any pomp and circumstance so far surrounding the final season at the Coliseum has been a massive disappointment for me. There's still 13 home games left so maybe the best is yet to come? I haven't seen anything noteworthy advertised though so I'm a bit skeptical. As someone who grew up with the Moncton Hawks I would have loved to have a throwback jersey night and see the Hawks jerseys on Coliseum ice one final time. I'm sure there's people out there who would feel the same way about the NB Hawks or the Golden Flames. I'm also sure there's a lot of people who don't really care what jersey the team is wearing. Nonetheless it does seem odd that a lot of the promotional material feature memorabilia from the NB Hawks, Alpines, Golden Flames, Hawks and so far...nothing. You'd think they would at the very least honour the NB Hawks Calder Cup team? Like I said maybe it's yet to come. Or maybe they didn't feel the effort of doing any type of those activities would be worth it.

I find the Cats to be terrible when it comes to stuff like this.
It seems like they have no connection to their alumni even though many have great things to say about the organization and their time here.
For the longest time, they didn't even have any former players show up to their annual golf tourney...recently they've had local guys show up but none of the guys that played in the NHL.
Kris Draper was at a couple games earlier this year on his own scouting and nothing was done there.
I look at Saint John, they've had 3(I believe) alumni games and alot of their big name players showed up for that(Huberdeau, Beaulieu, Depres, Gelinas etc). And you'll often see their former players still talking about the team on twitter.
For the Cats, other than former players retweeting the Mem cup video, you don't see much in the way of interaction.
The Cats had an alumni game a few years ago but it seemed like something that was put together last minute. The only big name players that showed were Parenteau who played here half a season and lives in town and Gormley
