My predictions for the Cats weekend:
- relatively quiet weekend - no major trades, maybe deal a couple of marginal vets for mid to late picks - this will be a "scouts draft" ... nothing flashy, will pick a lot of guys no one has ever heard of, passing on a number of higher profile guys (locals, NCAA types) to do so - at the end of the weekend, fans will be panicking that we were draft losers as others in our division either made big deals or picked "name" guys - three years from now, we will look back and see that we accumulated a lot of solid talent out of the 2018 draft
Thibeau strikes me as the quiet, competent type ... not looking for a microphone at every opportunity, not trying to hit home runs on every pitch ... but I expect he will quietly stockpile promising talent while avoiding attention. Kind of the anti-Shannon in many ways.

I think they will roll with their current core and see where they are at Christmas time. I'm just hoping that Moncton makes the picks and doesn't reach like they did numerous times with Shannon. I understand that it's a completely different scouting staff so that gives me hope. I thought they did a good job in last years draft but have since moved most of the worthwhile pieces. If they can get a similar quality of draft (I understand they won't get a Pelletier caliber player) then I think they've done well. I think they'll need to draft a few more defencemen this draft since they really have no prospects in the system that give much hope of being top 4 guys. Maybe grab a goalie in the 3-5 round range.

Anyone willing to take a shot at the top three picks in the first 5 rounds?

He was the guy trying to look smart by drafting guys nobody thought of that highly. The Cats had a good draft in 2017, unfortunately Shannon traded away 3 of the top 6 picks already...mind blowing when you think they did that in a season where they finished 14th!!!

My hope would be in those first 4 picks they take 2 D, 1 FW & 1 goaltender. There's 3 goalies in the system right now coming up but we still don't have any real confidence that they will be future Q starters after Grametbauers final season, so taking a high potential goaltender is important for the future of the franchise, something that's been neglected for too long.
In terms of defense the cupboards are almost completely empty, I wouldn't even be upset if they drafted 3 defenceman early, just depends whos available. Obviously things change as players go off the board or other teams reach Should be able to take a 17 year old euro FW to fill in the gaps up front.

Ideally they would draft 2 skilled d-men and a young goalie with high upside with their first 3 picks. They have some promising young forwards that are 16 or 17(will be 17 and 18) but not much on defense. Tucker Vanier Nicholson and Stewart, there is a chance that none of them end up as top 4 d-men. I would bet on 1 #3-4 guy out of that group. I hope they can find a young Euro d-man in the Import draft. Ideally a 17 year old that can step in and play top 4 minutes.

The draft is still 14 rounds which is weird since they added the last two rounds for drafting Americans essentially. I think adding an American draft separately only penalizes teams and will likely lead to less Americans coming in to the league. It's weird that they wouldn't have talked about it if true.

Unless that's just for administrative reasons to keep track of the US players drafted...

Agreed about them not going off the board ... my original comment about drafting players no one has heard of was meant to mean that they won't be blinded by picking name guys (locals, NCAA threats, relatives of former pros, etc..) - just solid prospects out of Midget who in many cases are not well known to most fans.

Good choices would like to see them draft a couple of power forwards with some size, to help compliment the D Here are my Moncton picks for the first 4 rounds: 18 - Lucas Mercuri - F - Chateauguay 20 - Ben Roode - D - Dartmouth 27 - Mavrick Gauthier - D - St Hyacinthe 40 - Ethan Pearson - G - Newbridge Academy 64 - Mark Hillier - F - St Andrews College 71 - Cole Cormier - F - Moncton
