I don't bother watching these games but looks like one of the best defences I've seen the Q put together in one of these events. Overall the team is much stronger than the teams they've put out there the last few years.

They announced that Koltygin and Chekhovich will both be playing for team Russia during the Canada-Russia Q games. Does that mean that Khovanov wasn't chosen or are these just the ones Russia knows they want to play for them?
Khovanov is a better prospect than both so you'd have assumed he would be chosen.

Russia has a history of not taking 18 year olds, let alone 18 year old CHLers... I think he could make that team and play at the WJC but I think this likely factored into him not being chosen (if he is indeed not chosen).

Age makes sense, it seems like a few of the guys I would have potentially chosen over them are 18 or younger.

Khovanov had a pretty strong game, Pelletier didn't do a lot.
The game was decided in nets, Welsh was shaky and the Russian goalie was very sharp.

Don't know anyone who gets excited or really wants to see these games unless they're in their own rink. I liked the pre-season summitt series we had a few years back. Something like that is a much better option then this which we all seem to agree isn't changing any Hockey Canada opinions any.

This is coming from someone who rarely misses any Cats home games. No interest in it whatsoever. Nothing more than a couple meaningless games added to an already busy schedule for a lot of the top players.

I think they'd have a better chance at getting me to pay to watch both teams do random skill challenges for the night then paying to watch them play a meaningless game.

Pelletier played well when he was on the ice ( he is good with or without the puck ) , looked like they were playing a lot of Lafreniere’s line ( tv hyped him up a lot ) , lots of energy from the Q stars but could not beat the Russian goalie , most shots were from outside . The Russian’s capitialized when they got their chances.
Khovanov played well and seemed to have a lot more ice time compared to Pelletier . He also seemed to be way more disciplined than he normally is during QMJHL games with the wildcats ( I do like his aggressiveness but sometimes he goes a little to far ). Maybe he thinks he has a shot at making the team for the WJHC !

Even less reason to consider tuning in, Pelletier is a healthy scratch.
