Hey guys and gals,
I realize this has been a tough season, in fact it’s probably been the hardest us Dog fans have had to endure. With the first half of the season coming to a close, I really think we’ve bottomed out and we’re gonna see more to be optimistic about going forward.
The activity here has also been at an all time low. I’m just curious who’s still around that wants to talk about the Dogs? D’Orio got a big win last night in what was very likely his last game as a Seadog. Nice to see the boys get a win, and watch Hardie and Drew throw hissy fits at the end of the game as the realization set in that they just lost to us bottom dwelllers.
Who’s still lurking around out there?

First time poster but frequent lurker. It certainly has been a tough year but last nights game was huge for their confidence. I’ve seen improvements in both their PP and PK (I’d love to see stats comparing the first 15 games to the last 15 games). There is tons of “young” talent on this team but it takes time to develop, I just hope the fans stay patient because they will be rewarded. D’Orio has been awesome for the Dogs and deserves one more shot at some playoff games.
Nobody ever says rebuilding is easy,

I think that we need to make some moves to give some of the older players a chance to win, while adding.
If Joly was reasonably priced, i would be happy with bringing him in, but we also need to get some depth at the 17 year old age level

I would also like to see us bring in some skill with size that will be around for at least two seasons. I wouldn’t mind giving up more for an 18 year old that would still be around as a 20 year old. We have a decent record in the last 10 or so games.

Having said that I don’t help matters any by not saying anything while I’m here lol.

You are correct it has been quiet on the board. Going to the games has been tough but for 14 years still get my ass to my seat.
The past couple of games have been some of the best in awhile. Yes on the Islanders board they cannot believe they lost to the Dogs last night. Since beating the streak they are 3-4 and that could have been reversed 4-3 if they could have got the tying goal against the Titan. They tried which was good to see.
Wish I knew what the Dogs plans were. D'Orio is the main asset we have not 16 years old. Stairs is impressing me with his skill so I would like to see him kept around however we know that will not happen - but you never know. rumblings I have heard people would have no problem seeing Boucher and #10 Poirier going for anything - however that is their opinion.
Just want to see the team improve and be competitive like last nights game.

I check in at least twice per day but haven't felt that I can add anything constructive.
I think we can all agree that we were expecting a few rough nights, especially in a tough division with 4 high-end / elite teams in Halifax, Moncton, Charlottetown and Cape Breton. But the degree to which they've been pounded most nights has been very disheartening.
While the Sea Dogs appear to have received an excellent return for guys like Joe Veleno, Ostap Safin and Cedric Pare, players such as Radim Salda and Kevin Gursoy likely could have helped the kids in the first half.
Looking toward the trade period, I've heard rumblings that the Sea Dogs are looking to bring in 3-4 18 and/or 19 year-old players to make the team much more competitive in the second half.
While I'm probably dreaming in Technicolour, I'd like to see Andrew Coxhead and D'Artagnan Joly added to the team. Another top 4 left-hand defenceman would also be on my wish list.

Moving Hardie at the last minute for a 4th & 5th just to get something also wasn't super necessary. Not a terrible return but also likely less than he was worth given that he was on pace to be a 50+ point forward. He would have been your best 20 this season.

I felt Hardie played pretty uninspired hockey while here - not sure I’d want him in a mentoring role here.

Lirette - I'm still on the fence about the Hardie deal. His production for the Islanders has been excellent, especially against Saint John ... Gursoy too. But there were whispers that he was on a coach's 'naughty list' (pardon the seasonal pun). Also, those draft picks were used to get Mathias Savoie (one of the top Midget AAA goaltenders this year) and Alexandre O'Neill (the MVP of the Quebec Midget Espoirs league last year).
If those two grow into key roles, in addition to Villeneuve, J. Poirier, Lawrence, Burns, DesRoches and Stairs, that could be the best draft class in Sea Dogs history.

I usually check in and sometimes would have stuff to say if there was a GDT but don't bother creating one when I notice nobody else did either.
Been thinking about maybe creating an alumni discussion thread to possibly increase activity here. There are a few former Dogs having good years in the NHL while others have made their debuts this season. I know we have the alumni stats thread but that hasn't been very active and a general discussion thread might generate more activity.

I was fine with the Hardie trade at the time especially considering what was paid for him. Was hoping for more but agreed with moving him for whatever we could. I was starting to think that in hindsight he would have been worth keeping around but wasn't aware of the negative attitude. I don't really know much about the players those picks became but they sound promising.
The trade I liked at the time but in hindsight kind of wish was never made was Gursoy. I liked it because I knew the Sea Dogs weren't going to contend during his time in the Q and he was a free agent so might as well get whatever for him. I believe the return was a 4th which isn't bad but isn't great. So now I'm thinking he's the type of player that could have helped this team be more competitive which could help the younger guy's development and morale. For that reason I hope we don't move any other veteran besides D'Orio unless there is an unreasonably good return. Anyone else would just be depth players on contenders so they probably wouldn't pay much, but would be worth more to us. Burt is definitely looking like he will be a 20 next year when this team will hopefully make a big step towards being competitive.

Nice interview with Georgie in the 1st intermission.
Sounds like we've got at least one announcement for tomorrow.

Nice interview with Georgie in the 1st intermission. Sounds like we've got at least one announcement for tomorrow. I just saw Trevor Georgie leading Alex Drover and 2 adults which I assume are his parents into the Sea Dogs front office...... Let the speculation begin....
