First two periods were some of the best hockey I've seen them play in a while so that was encouraging. Unfortunately it was the same old story in the third period. Clearly outworked for the majority of it. That tying goal was incredibly deflating.

No need whatsoever to do that on a harmless play while on PP. Torchetti cant play the game for them.

Khavanov also took an idiotic penalty in the 3rd jostling with a Moose player with the ref looking right at him because of the commotion they were causing.

Khovanov is one of the most talented players the Cats have had, and also one of the dumbest.

End of second I thought for sure a Wildcat win..... until that xcheck by Capanelli which set up the loss. As for Khavanov, he takes very stupid penalties to the point the new coach just may sit him out regardless of his supposedly talent. Since the coaching change team performance hasn’t been stellar as currently sitting ninth place in the league.

It just shows that the coaching change should have been made long before it actually did. The habits that have formed throughout the season (Playing 60 mins, Discipline, Systems) are going to be difficult to change if it at all. It's going to take Torchetti a lot of work to turn this team around.

They have some high end skill up front, but the defense and overall defensive game was an issue even when they were winning, giving up a lot of shots/chances which Leclerc covered up early on, plus a big lack of discipline, guys like Khovanov, Seitz and Sylvestre regularly take stupid penalties. Even if those don't lead to goals, they kill momentum and put extra stress on the big minute guys on D. I think it's too bad they overachieved early rather than having a consistent season around 70-75 points. Ideally they DON'T add 3 19 year olds, instead they move out 2-3 of their own and get a bit younger to build for 2020 and 2021. I'm not talking a full on rebuild, just taking one step back to take two forward.

That penalty doesn't get called if his stick doesn't break. I didn't see the replay but that's what it looked like to me in real time.

He has scored 3 goals since November, and has had 13 total points since then. He is a defensive liability and has caused far more goals against in the same time period. He is super talented but a waste of a pair of skates. His ego gets in his way just about every shift.

I'm not talking a full on rebuild, just taking one step back to take two forward. Yup ... although I think this team can be that good. When they were winning and leading the conference they were a very good passing team. Our puck movement on our powerplay was quick and accurate. Now on our PP everybody takes a pass and stick handles the puck 2 or 3 times before moving it, because that stick handling allowed a defender plenty of time to get into the shooting lane. Yesterday we scored two goals due to quick puck movement on Mckenna's 2 one-timers. So what happened since then ... where did that good passing team go to ? Its not like they lost the skill. Those three 19 Yr olds we added ... good but not great. Giguere has had a few moments but for the most part has been underwhelming. Huntley also very underwhelming. Anntalainen has been very good. I would have rather kept Tucker than deal to get Huntley ... giving up NKF along the way. Too many good assets given up to not take any steps forward.

I think we are making baby steps in the right direction under Torchetti, but we are in the midst of a very tough stretch in our schedule which is obscuring any progress. We were competitive in both games this weekend against two of the top teams in the league. Unfortunately, by the time we can right the ship and get back in the win column regularly, it may be too late to avoid a tough first round matchup ... we might already be playing for next year.

I also believe we are taking steps in the right direction , but agree that Khovanov just seems to be going through the motions , not playing at the same level as he was before Christmas ( since being sent back from the Russian junior team ) , that may be part of the problem , I think he needs to be a healthy scratch for a game and see if that helps him . I’m impresssed with Anntalainen , very good puck mover and good in his own end dispite his size, the puck came into the moncton end with a few seconds left in the period and Halifax pressing, he just pinned the puck against the boards and braced for the hit , but then Capannelli took a stupid penalty that was not necessary

I would agree that there were some good signs this weekend. At some point though you have to actually win games. I'm sure people will say they were playing the top two teams in the East, what did you expect? The reality is both games were there for the taking and they couldn't get it done. Torchetti is not happy, Hodge is not shying away from reporting it and I'm at least thankful we're getting that instead of the usual T&T fluff of "great effort against top teams".

It's getting hard to enjoy going to the rink knowing what a circus some of the decision making is off the ice. If they sold a couple veterans like Charlottetown and were putting in a good effort in a losing cause like this weekend I would be satisfied. Unfortunately they added and fans have every right to be upset with the results.
This should have been a fun season...13th overall Euro pick, new arena, non-contending but competitive team with fun players to watch, ...somehow they've managed to mostly ruin it so far. Starting to feel like more and more of a chore supporting this franchise.
I truly hope Torchetti is given the leeway to try and fix this properly.
