Well, it was a good 1st period at least. Brutal discipline as usual. Will be lucky to get out of this with a point.

Drover not getting much ice time = chicken Drover not producing much = egg Hard to say which came first but it is disappointing either way. Listening to the game tonight I couldn't help but notice how much ice time Larose was getting for the Eagles. A 2000 born top 4 d-man is exactly what this team needs right now and he was traded away for a guy that often looks good but isn't playing much and isn't getting many points.

He’s been buried on the 4th line the entire season with the exception of spot duty on the 3rd if there are injuries. For some reason James White ( no goals) and Jeremy Jacob ( no goals) have had multiple opportunities on the top 2 lines. The kid deserves better and should be given more ice time.

There are still 9 other guys besides those two looking for ice-time: Guay, Cajkovic, NDP, Burns, Lawrence, Stairs, Gould, Roy, Badalamenti. Then there is White, McIntosh, Jacob, Vandervoet all battling for icetime as well. Somebody is always going to lose in this situation and end up buried on the depth chart. Players are not dumb and if you start giving Ice-time to a player and taking from a guy that is playing better it won't go unnoticed. I'be seen it when a couple prospects get extra shifts at a tournament because the coach is trying to help them get noticed by the scouts in attendance. It sours the non- prospect veterans who are just want to win and the whole team suffers as a result.

Recurring theme on two different teams in two different years maybe the problem is in the kids mirror if he looks at it

A further issue regarding getting ice time for all is that the team currently seems to only roll three lines, with the fourth line getting very little ice. On top of that it seems to often be reduced to two lines for the most part, later in the game.

The more you think about it, they are going to have to make some big moves within the next 2 trade periods. With SJ sitting on 3 1st round picks (that could all be top 10) they are going to have to move them/make room on the roster. It's a good problem to have but may be hard to manage effectively.

Coaching every game like it is game 7 of the playoffs - tends to happen when the coach feels his job is on the line.

most teams roll 3 lines with the 4th getting sporadic icetime.... and less icetime when losing..... that's not exactly anything new
but i said it from the get go..... building a team with so many high profile players of the same birth year was going to become a problem...... just didn't expect it to be this quickly... some of the prizes are going to be shipped out before reaching their potential

Coaching every game like it is game 7 of the playoffs - tends to happen when the coach feels his job is on the line. He was doing that when he was perfectly safe. Since Drover was acquired at Christmas last year, he's been glued to the 4th line when he plays.

James White continues to play more every game than Burns, Lawrence, Stairs and Drover. When we dress Spadafore and Musico, they are staples on our Pk and all late game leads and Villeneuve and Poirier see their icetime cut (and McCallum and Lehmus don't play at all in these situations if they are dressed) The key takeaway is that the younger players are actually better defensively but lose out because there are older options.
