The fact that Irving owns the major papers in NB kept it all under wraps.

The fact that Irving owns the major papers in NB kept it all under wraps. I mean there's other outlets that covered the firing, including Saltire, CBC & Sportsnet who don't answer to Irving. There just isn't the level of journalistic interest in junior hockey that we were ever going to see a deeper investigation take place. Had someone credible leaked more information to one of those outlets I'm sure we would see the story published if it was a bombshell. There's probably only a small circle of people who actually know the full situation, Thibeau and maybe a couple of the coaches at the time. Highly unlikely they'd risk their careers leaking to the media. At this point it'll remain as mysterious as the decision to hire Jungle Man.

Resurrecting this really old thread ... I was curious the other day and decided to Google what Torchetti was up to ... it appears he has not coached anywhere since leaving the Wildcats. If he is working anywhere in hockey, he seems to be keeping a very low profile. If you look at his team staff profile on eliteprospects.com , this will be the longest he has ever gone between gigs in his career ... which definitely seems to lend some credence to the story that whatever happened in Moncton, it was more than philosophical differences and would appear to have had a long term negative career impact on him. COVID popped up not long after he left Moncton ... or am I mixing up my seasons. But there hasn't been much in the way of regular hockey for him to get hired into.

Pretty much everybody associated with the team, support staff and billets knew what happened, I think if there was a non Irving newspaper it would have been a relatively big story for Moncton anyways...not sure about a bombshell. I know that pretty much every hardcore WC fan knew that there was a lot more to the story than what came out.

He was let go 2-3 months before Covid, but just about every league played last year except for the OHL. Pretty sure that those looking to hire somebody would go digging to know what happened exactly.

John torchetti joins the Philadelphia flyers as assistant coach for the remainder of the season.

There's no way even 10% of the rumours on his departure are true if he ended up with an NHL gig.

Apply for an NHL job? That's all I can find on Google that was rumoured at the time. The Wildcats were 21-6-0-0 when Torchetti stayed in Moncton and the team left on a Quebec road trip under Darryl Boyce. Torchetti seemed to be a guy who didn't take any guff from anybody. I bet he trashed a few rooms over the years.
