You do realize that the weather was good Friday morning and that with more time they could take their time. They chose to leave Halifax when the weather was awful in SJ and risk everyone on their bus. not really - they had an out and it was stop if the conditions forced them to - which is what they did. Ahead of Thursday there was a much doubt about safety. Snow started in Halifax at 11am Thursday and then freezing rain short of leaving really early Thursday to get ahead it was all about managing driving windows from noon Thursday until the time they tried. A bigger concern by late Friday may have been the wind. It's really bad on a high sided vehicle. There is inconvenience either way. They do try to be least disruptive for players in school and it has happened before that a team has left really early 2 days before a game only for the game to be snowed out and the whole trip was for nothing and still had to be made up. It's easy to second guess. But they kept their priorities in the right order. And did pay the price having stayed overnight in Moncton anyway. Only if their priority was not playing. It is not safe to risk driving on dark, icy, windy roads (which they did). Only a moron would risk that.

Let's see when they stopped in Moncton at 5:30-6ish and aborted it meant not driving in dark and not driving on ice and in wind. Priority 1 - safety ^ check Priority 2 - not leave before storm on Thursday inconvenience students who would have to miss whole day to get on road before 11am when storm started in Halifax ^ check Priority 3 - make game at all costs x Priority 4 - avoid wasting time & money x I think they had their priorities in order. The most important ones check the boxes. It cost them money and the game and will need to squeeze in another trip.

Classified is here and the game was sold out. They should let people with tickets in to see him and then allow people to use their ticket to redeem another to a future game. Looks like that is what's happening followed by a scrimmage. Initially they were telling people that their ticket would be good for the make up game but now they're saying it can be used for any remaining game. I think they really wanted that one game in front of a packed house against a weaker opponent but allowing them to be used for any of the remaining games is the right call in my opinion. The make up game is likely to be a weeknight which won't necessarily work for everyone. In fact any specific date likely won't work for all 5500+ people but surely one of the remaining games should work for pretty much everyone, unless they happened to be visiting this weekend from far away. If people get stuck with unused tickets because of a game being rescheduled, they'll think twice before purchasing tickets in advance next time, especially in January or February. It will probably be better for concession sales too (specifically alcohol) if people use their ticket for a weekend game than being forced to use it on a weeknight make up game. The Ice Bar was packed last night and I have a feeling most of those people would prefer using the ticket on a Friday or Saturday game.

I'm not sure what the forecast was in Halifax or points in between but initially they were calling for the storm to be over in SJ by early afternoon. My guess is that it was probably pretty similar in Halifax since they're both coastal cities, might have been a bit different in-land. With Thurday's weather not being much better, they might have made their plans based on that forecast. Unfortunately temperatures didn't warm up until much later than originally expected so we still got freezing rain instead of rain pretty much right up until game time. It's easy to 2nd guess, especially when we don't know everything that went into the decision. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the shoe will be on the other foot.

Safety would mean leaving Friday morning and not being in Moncton at 5:30 (when it is dark and both during and after forecasted freezing rain). If you think otherwise, you are a moron. In order to have reached Moncton by then, they had to leave after noon, when they could clearly see on any weather app that both ice and rain were a problem.

I had 3/4 inch of ice on my car at 9am. It was probably worse on a bus. And the roads were 50/50. They werent driving out very fast on it. It did start to warm up or stop freezing rain on the coast at noon. Probably they had to leave then. I drive the highways in this region every week. It can change really fast going west on the TCH. And probably they couldnt do the speed limit. Sometimes the twinned highways are really 1 lane. They should get a medal for trying (but please no playoff spot).

Weather can be a bit volatile. We've been pretty lucky this winter compared to normal. Does it suck that this storm just happened to coincide with what would have been the first Sea Dogs sellout in nearly 3 years? Of course! Is it necessarily anyone's fault? Nope!
