Well, hard to believe you can pull out a win with 7 GAA but that’s just what the Dogs did! Thank goodness for Bouthillier, seemed like (once again) he saved the game.
Anyone still wondering if the Seadogs really need a defence coach?

I can tell you right now Bouthhillier didn't save you the game one of Halifax's gaols was an easy 5 hole goal he should have had, and right before your empty net goal in a goal mouth scramble Halifax almost tied it.

Anyone still wondering if the Seadogs really need a defence coach? Until we get a half-decent defense coach I'm not sure what to expect these next 2 seasons. The likely addition of Innis and everyone else being a year old should help but I still don't think they'll be playing to their potential. They'll win games on talent but not as many as they should. When a goalie lets in 7 goals against one of the worst teams in the league and is still get praised for saving the game, that says a lot about the defense in front of him.

Fair enough - all I can go on is the radio call and the stats line, and from both accounts it looks like the difference was between the pipes. Bouthillier’s play this season definitely puts him in the team MVP discussion.

Most goals against in the league. And that’s not all, or even mostly, on the goaltending imo.

I also noticed that this is the 2nd game in a row that Gould wore an "A" instead of Villeneuve. With Deakin-Poot out of the lineup they could have given Gould an "A" without taking away Villeneuve's but they did anyway. They obviously decided neither he or any of the other young D-men are leadership material just yet, and I have to agree.
He and Poirier are putting up some impressive offensive numbers. Villeneuve now has the franchise record for most assists in a season by a d-man and Poirier currently leads the league in goals by a d-man. But they need to improve defensively.

Goaltending has been the MVP of this team...the number of shots on net...look at the quality of shots that are being taken...for example in the game against Moncton Friday night, Pelletier had 2 breakaways stopped by Bouthillier....numerous odd man rushes every game...you can’t stop them all! Goalies even at the NHL level don’t stop them all! How many games would the dogs have lost without Bouthillier and occasionally Patenaude standing tall?
It doesn’t matter how many goals you score, if you let in more! Check out the players plus/minus...

It's funny to see when the Dogs play high scoring games they also allow a lot of goals against (6-2, 8-4, 5-2, 6-3, 6-4, 10-6, 5-4, 5-7, 9-7). It's like everyone on the team starts thinking of scoring goals and forgets to play defence. If it wasn't for stellar goaltending a lot more games would have been lost. Maybe our D should start focussing on what they are actually drafted for ie preventing goals against instead of trying to make the end to end rushes.
That's where a good D coach is badly needed. Hope management is addressing it as we speak, either immediately or for next season.
