Well, now that the season if officially done, I figured I would start a thread congratulating (stick taps) the Cats on a great season. It is unfortunate we won't get to see this team chase a championship, but there are far bigger problems in the world right now.
- First off, congrats to Ritchie Thibeau for building one heck of a hockey team. Considering the chaos surrounding the franchise leading up to the trade deadline with the Torchetti saga, he nonetheless was able to identify what we needed and then go out and acquire it.
- Dan Lacroix, Josh Hepditch, and the rest of the coaching staff deserve a lot of credit for taking that same chaotic situation, coming in cold, righting the ship, and getting the team playing there best hockey of the year down the stretch.
- the players - we were treated to quite a collection of future pros ... Rodrigue, Khovanov, Pelletier, Groulx, Fortier, L'Heureux, Spence, Andersson, MacIsaac all have reasonable (though not guaranteed) possibilities of one day playing in the NHL ...
Too bad the way it all went down - I think Downtown Moncton would have been rocking this spring with the first long playoff run in the Avenir Centre bringing big crowds ... how fast things change.
Wonder how long it will take before we find out what the final bill ends up being for Groulx, MacIsaac, Fortier, etc ...

Unfortunately I think it will be 4 or 5 years until they can compete for a title again. The cupboards were not as full as you would like so it took almost everything to get those 3 impact players(Fortier Groulx and McIsaac). In an ideal world they take the next 2 years to load up on your talent and picks and start progressing in 22-23 to an above average team and a contender in 23-24. The most interesting part of the off season will be which assets go to recoup some of the 2020, 2021 and 2022 draft picks sent away. My biggest fear is L'heureux stays and is not traded and he ends up in the NHL at 18.

Then we still have Spence and Pelletier and we deal them at Christmas.

(I'm assuming Desnoyers is gone as is either ZL or Pelletier/Spence). If all 4 are gone or 3/4 with only Pelletier or Spence back, it will possibly turn into a 5 year rebuild not 4(compete for a title year 5). I think a few others could make good trade chips...S.Stewart(19) and Daoust(19) plus possibly Hudson(20) or Dejong(20) depending on how they do and the market.
