Cuts today hopefully. Surprised all the FAs from Ontario are still here.....thomasini got to join after others have been cut? I was expecting more if they let him miss tryouts. Not exactly sure what role he is supposed to fill.......... I think we have a fourth line problem. Got tossed around a lot that game. Theres no real energy guys around. Who's supposed to do that? Figured a Foreman, Watt, Stewart line was in the works last week.

With our backup goaltender in ... Sheehan has to stop at least one of those three Element breakaways. I agree it’s our backup in, but our entire season is against these teams(Maritime division) and I would consider Cape Breton to be a team he likely gets a start or two against so definitely needs to be better. That being said you can’t give up 3 uncontested breakaway with veteran defencemen on the ice. The 5-6 pairing sure be some growing pains but not ok whether September or February for the vets on this thin team. Yes we heard you the first 7 times you mentioned it (It's an exaggeration, relax) I'm gonna go out on a limb and think you haven't played any level of high level of hockey before or coached it? If so, you'd understand the game a lot better than crying the world is ending in a REBUILDING season that people can't be doing "this" and you can't be doing "that". You don't think the players know? You don't think the coaches know? I'm sure a lot of posters on this board know. I understand you're a big fan of the team but with that attitude you're digging your own grave into hating the team and maybe an early prescription to blood pressure pills. All the while it can negatively impacting the views of others who may not watch as intently s you do, and some other fans may just plain dismiss anything you'd have to say In the end, to be blunt: Your post was way over the top for this early on in the PRE-SEASON. Let's take a step back and realize that this is a rebuilding season and guys like Spence, Stewart, Fortier, etc. are going to be relied upon to play a lot of big minutes consistently every night in roles which they may or may not have played in a long time (At least not at this level). Those guys are going to make errors and have off nights. This isn't NHL20 where ratings and experience determine performance Next time you watch a game (Pre-season or regular) and the cats in general or a particular player puts up a stinker: Instead of saying "This team needs to be fixed or SOMETHING needs to be done", perhaps saying something such as: "Well not our night tonight, bounces and decision making wasn't there, hopefully a better effort next time!". Go into play specifics, get us some insight into what specifically you see rather than just blurting out any slight against a player. Would love to see ya try and post some positives on player performance and progression. That's what really draws fans in . Get them invested, not turn yourself and them away with negativity

Maybe he wasn't able to skate due to quarantine. Based on his stats I get the impression he was guaranteed a spot to report, he is a guy that could have gone NCAA, which that league is often used for by players. He was 5th in U18 scoring and the top 2 guys are headed NCAA(including Labelle's brother). Vincent Labelle was 7th.

Here’s the highlights of today. Not a great night for either goalie, although Grimard saw a lot of rubber.

He would not be able to skate under quarantine. All I am saying is that his conditioning appears to be way behind everybody else. I'll give him a good month and see how he improves.

Do you think all the guys from QUE/ONT that came as free agents were guaranteed a spot? None of them have been cut. It seems they're all similar style players, of various sizes, each with strengths and weaknesses, but all the same level of compete/skill. It seems like an oversight to sign these guys before they got here, when other local prospects in the maritimes already in the system put up comparable numbers and/or had strong seasons. I always assumed the guys that got signed "pre-camp" were top 3 rounders, with high upsides.....

Usually the ones that have NCAA options playing in the CJHL at 18 would only report with a guaranteed spot. My guess is Olson Labelle and Tomasini were guaranteed spots. Bernier, I'm not sure. I think Stammer was(not a UFA but a 2018 pick). Often the good FA's get spots plus education money, the Cats did it with many guys over the years.

I find them to be a little overrated, although Olson did play well yesterday. And likely “overrated” not the greatest descriptor. I just think if you’re gonna be invited and potentially signed pre camp, as a 18yr or 19yr old FA, you should be lights out. Otherwise an open ended no strings attached try out should be the offer IMO.

Under different circumstances, I’m sure that’s how it would be but they have to guarantee them a spot so they can see them in games since the inter squad games aren’t really the same at all this year

What you get is what we have seen in past years. DeJong was just okay when he came here at 18, but last year he was so much improved to be a key guy. Daoust was just okay last year also, but in the second half he started to show flashes of brilliance with regards to puck skills. I expect big numbers from him this year, and I note also that he has added some size. So I don't think you should have too high expectations from the Ontario FAs this season as it will take them some time to adapt firstly, and it may take a full year before you really start seeing improvement. The alternative is we use our 7th to 12th round picks to fill out our roster. I'll take the 18 yr olds that have at least a year of Jr A experience, because it is a much smaller jump to the CHL than a kid out of U18 (isn't that what we are supposed to call Midget now ?) We are rebuilding ... don't expect so much.
