The Seadogs hit the road to take on the Islanders in their 20/21 season home opener. This will be a tough game for the Dogs, who most would say have underachieved thus far. The Islanders have a strong team, and they beat the Dogs 6-5 at TD Station after having jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two periods in the Seadogs own home opener.
Would be great to see the Dogs return the favour as home opener spoiler over on the Island.

Wave after wave of odd man rushes and quality scoring chances are being given up to the opposition. It’s very frustrating to watch every single game..... I feel bad for the goalies being left high and dry...

I feel bad for the goalies being left high and dry... Every game looks the same. And the results are the same. One win in the first five games. Saw this coming a mile away, and said so before the season started. We decided to cut any veteran scoring we had up front and not go out and get any, and put it all on guys 18 years old or younger. We added Innis on D, but he can't play all game long, and he has obviously been struggling through an injury. We again did not add a coach to the staff that has actually spent any time as a defenseman, nor that has proven he can teach a kid how to play that position at this level. Goaltending....well it doesn't matter who is in net really, given how big of a train wreck we are defensively. It would take a super human performance 95% of the time to have any chance to win. Sorry but I blame this on management/ownership. They set the team up this way. They chose the coaching staff all these years. Don't blame Poirier, Villeneuve, or any other defenseman really. I don't recall any scouting reports out there saying those guys were a clusterfuck in their own end when we drafted them. We just failed to teach them how to play their position at this level. When you bet the future on a couple stud prospects on D, you' would think you would put the teachers and tools in place to make sure they have the best chance possible to succeed and bring you the success you want as well. When high end prospects start to figure out that the only high end prospect that ever remained a high end prospect come NHL draft time was Huberdeau...we could be in serious trouble. We have had far more high end players have their individual draft stock drop, drastically, than we have seen rise, when it comes NHL draft time. We can't keep blaming it on the players every time.

When attending games at Harbour Station now (with Covid rules) can you go outside between periods and then re-enter? Yes

Pretty much agree. Scoring hasn't been too much of an issue in most games. Then again, the object is to score more than the opposition, whether that be 7-6 or 2-1. The more offence a team has, the more they can get away with poor defence. So far they haven't outscored the opposition once in regulation or overtime. I also don't think they played with a lead since blowing the 3-0 lead opening night. Maybe if they could get a few timely goals early, the defense could focus more on defence. I wasn't expecting Brady Burns to have zero goals after 5 games. Our current 19 and 20 year old forwards are mediocre. I don't just mean offensively but I'm not overly impressed with them. Decent depth players but they don't seem to be the leaders up front that this team needs. Without knowing why Anderson MacDonald wasn't invited to training camp, I wouldn't mind giving him another chance if that is an option at all. Maybe he did something to burn his last bridge that I'm not aware of but I'm just throwing the idea out there. There's currently room for another 20 and a final decision wouldn't need to be made until Kotkov arrives, if that ever happens. I like Cowan as a coach in any other role he's had besides defence coach. I just don't get why they think he's the right guy for that role. If we count the start of last season before Dixon was fired, this is his 4th season in that role and so far we've not seen anything to suggest he's a good defence coach. Maybe it could work under the right head coach but Gilbert doesn't appear to be that guy any more than Dixon was but I'm willing to bet he cost way more and likely won't be going anywhere anytime soon. That's not to say that Gilbert isn't or can't be a good coach in the right situation. But collectively, this trio of coaches doesn't appear to be the right formula for this group of players. Give Gilbert Boutilier as a defense coach with either or the other 2 as the forward coach and he probably does fine. I was disappointed when Gilbert was named head coach but was talked into being cautiously optimistic but now I'm back to being disappointed again. Hopefully my current opinion will be proven wrong over the long run. Right now I'm thinking this team should be better next year but won't peak/contend until the year after. It will be tough picking three 20s from that group of 2002s but they should be one of the best group of 20s in the league to support a solid core of 2003s and 2004s.
