As announced by the league Thursday, the 2021 QMJHL Draft will be held virtually June 25th and 26th. The 1st round will take place on June 25 while rounds 2-14 and the American Draft will be held on the next day. Moncton holds the 18th overall pick (Jakob Pelletier trade). If Ryan Hopkins doesn't sign, the Wildcats will receive a compensation pick which would be the 3rd pick of the 2nd round - 23rd overall. lhjmq.forumactif.com/t4316-banques-de-choix-2021-2022-2023 - This site shows Moncton has their own 3rd round pick but my understanding is Drummondville will have that choice as part of the Rodrigue trade.

Well at least we’ll know what’s happening with Hopkins sooner than later. Good to see they won’t be completely asset-less if Hopkins decides to try the NCAA route.

What rule is this? That if he doesn’t show we get the same 23rd pick the next year

Since when do they have compensatory picks in round 2? I thought it was only for round 1? I agree with the concept, in order to get "NCAA" kids to try and report and not just go to big market teams late. I think it's worth having it the first 3 rounds...but I thought it only applied to Rd 1.

So Moncton would have to drop Hopkins leaving him available to be picked by another team this year.

Ruins what seemed like a good draft for the club

Dropping him from the protected list altogether? Wow, what happened. Ruins what seemed like a good draft for the club They would get an extra 2nd this draft, which could work both ways with no QMAAA season, they might get a 1st round talent or end up with a 4-5th round talent. It all hinges on if they can convince Hopkins to report I guess.

Speaking of the 2020 draft, it looks pretty solid so far, obviously having Rozzi and hopkins contributing would make it a whole lot better.
Loshing looks like he should be a top 6 guy, possibly 1st line. Iasenza looks like a #3-4 d-man, 2 way guy with an edge. Casey should be at least a good 2 way 3rd liner, possible top 6 with growth. Daniel another solid bottom 6 guy with some skill and pace to his game. Mueller looks like he might be able to play in the Q, he was one of the youngest players drafted, will need time. Katz, Rozzi and Hopkins are question marks at this point.
...but the one real find it that draft to me is Darcy, his poise and agility with the puck and how he thinks the game, looks like a real steal for an 8th rounder. Will be a player to watch coming into camp next year. Should be a solid top 4 guy and potentially top pair at 19/20.
