If it is true that the Dogs tried to hire Pouliot and it got vetoed by the League. I wonder who else they had in mind for the job?
Hopefully it is someone that is a winner and can get this team playing at the level they are capable of on paper.

A name being tossed around as a new assistant coach is Troy Smith.

Dwyer has certainly been around and has alot of experience. What happened to him in Shawinigan? He was only there for a year. Did he get let go?
I know people say that he is a good coach. Hopefully he can get more from the Sea Dogs players.
I guess time will tell if it is a good hire.

I'm very high on him as a coach. I was hoping he would replace John Torchetti in Moncton. I must say though; I'm quite satisfied with Dan Lacroix. Some of the Seadogs players called Greg Gilbert "soft". That would line up with comments made by Joshua Roy when he said practices were just flow drills.

I must say, it sure seems like we have been run like a Micky Mouse organization for the last while. While the drafting of high-end players has happened, their development has left lots to be desired. That's on management and coaching. The last 3 years it's obvious to everyone and their dog this team needs to improve their team defence, and yet it remains a black hole. Running back the same players and not investing in it through coaching and this is what you get. Now we are losing value on trades of players who don't want to play here (Roy, Carruthers). What does it say about the team when the 1st overall pick from two years ago and 3rd overall pick from last year both want out. I know what it tells me...
This coaching carousel is just the icing on the cake. No news from the team, just a bunch of rumours and rumblings, not being able to hire the person you wanted without knowing. Like, come on.

New coach to be announced tomorrow at 11 per Jamie Tozer. Also, if WhiteTy's rumor is true, SJ is finally hiring a D coach.

The Dwyer and Smith combo should work well and makes sense. They both have a long history of missing the playoffs; and losing in round one. Hopefully Dwyer does come in and kick ass and whoop some people into shape. Hopefully management stays out of his way while he does it. Will they though? Time will tell, but it doesn't sound like they are letting Dwyer just bring in his own team of assistants. Not a good indication that management can just step back and let Dwyer do his job.

Time will tell if they got it right this time.
They have gone through four coaches, alot of player turnover, The 20 year old and goaltending fiasco last year.
Only one thing has remained the same.

If Troy Smith is the assistant, he'd be Dwyer's guy. They worked the U16s together. Which is good but from what I hear only one of our assistants is likely to be let go. The other is staying. Thus unless Dwyer knows the guy and has worked with him before, or met with him and told management he'd like to keep him...Dwyer is being saddled with an existing coach. Sometimes that works out, but it seems rare, or maybe it just seems that way because when it goes badly it gets a lot more attention.

As long as someone actually coaches defense, I'm sure Gordie can manage. It's been a crater on the potential of this team for the past 3 years.
