The first round of the 2021 QMJHL draft is in the books. Of course, Charlottetown did not have a first round selection so they were quiet on Friday night.
Our first scheduled pick of Saturday is in the 2nd round at pick #32. Then we have the following:
3rd round, #57 4th round, #63 5th round #93 6th round, #99 8th round, #147 9th round, #165 10th round, #172 10th round #183 11th round, #201 12th round, #219 13th round #237 14th round, #255
No doubt, there will be some focus on drafting assets with the early picks that might be valuable pieces to trade to acquire veteran players. In addition, I'll be curious to see if Jim can do some dealing to move down in the attempt to pick up some extra 2022 and/or 2023 selections.

Ranked #11 in the final CSR ranking…we’ve seen how far the rankings have been off so far, but the kid must have talent to be rated that high.

Nicholas Hui - Notre Dame prep Without that big 1st round name - it's always going to look like an underwhelming list. I forgot who said it - but they said that "most players have major junior skills in some facets of the game - but it's getting them up to a competitive level in other areas." They seem to have several like that - but I guess that's why they call it upside. Watching the interview with Jim Hulton - he was much different than I expected. He's immediately likeable - confident - well-spoken and very good with the media. The mannerisms and the way he carries himself are very similar to Gerard Gallant from twenty years ago. Somebody's going to snap him up and groom him for an NHL job before too long. Is it a done deal that Darryl Boyce and Mike Kelly will be joining Gallant with the Rangers?

In the video the Isles posted, Trevor Birt says Mossey and Damphousse are both going to play in the states next year to develop, but the doors are still wide open to play junior at some point.

What do we have in our new prospects? Obviously, this is an extraordinarily tough year to get a read on players, since there was so little hockey played this past season.
Here's a little more detail about our choices.
Forward Matis Ouellet was drafted #32 overall (2nd round) but was ranked at #11 on the CSR list. Ouellet is 5'10" and 165 lb and would have played last year in the Amos MAAA program. The previous year, 2018-19, he led his bantam AAA team in scoring and played 7 games (with 4 points) in the midget espoir league.
Defenceman Anton Topilnyckyj was drafted #57 overall (3rd round) but was ranked at #25 on the CSR list. Topilnyckyj is listed as 6'1" and 160 lb. Last year, Topilnyckyj played MAAA in Fredericton where he scored 1-2-3 in 12 games.
Forward Brett Arsenault was drated #63 overall (4th round) and was ranked in the 9+ round on the CSR list. Arsenault is listed at 5'11" and 145 lbs. Last year, Arsenault was limited to one game with the Charlottetown Knights MAAA (due to injury). The previous year, in bantam AAA, he scored 28-38-66 in 28 games and was 3rd in league scoring.
Defenceman Nathan Mossey was drafted #93 overall (5th round). He was ranked at #51 on the CSR list. Mossey is 5'11" and 150 lbs. Mossey played prep school hockey at The Mount Academy this past year. In the previous season, he was 15-35-50 in bantam AAA. As we have heard, Mosssey is heading to the US for the coming season to play at Mount St. Charles academy.
Goaltender Jack Flanagan was drafted #99 overall (6th round). Flanagan was ranked in the 6th-8th round on the CSR list. This past season, Flanagan also played at The Mount Academy. In the year previous he played bantam AAA with Kings County, where he had a 3.09 GAA and a .890 save percentage in 19 games, for a record of 9-6-1.
Forward Mitchell Wagner was drafted #147 overall (8th round). He was ranked in the 6th-8th round category by the CSR. Wagner is 6'2" and 174 lb. This season he played with Dartmouth MAAA where he was 7-9-16 in 29 games.
