15 players were selected by the Wildcats in the Q Draft on Saturday. Here's a brief recap.
Etienne Morin: Offensive defenseman. Puck skills are off the charts. He can easily dangle around forecheckers. Future powerplay quarterback. I was surprised to still see him available after the 1st round. Huge get for the Wildcats.
Alex Mercier: Explosive skater. Fast and shifty. Competes hard. Shoots hard (90+ MPH slap shot at 15). Another player who I expected to go in the 1st round. His idol is Jakob Pelletier.
Luke McPhee: Physically ready for junior hockey. Fast skater for his size. Not many can get off a shot in stride quite like Luke. Trending to be a power forward. Would love to see him play Junior A next season.
Preston Lounsbury: 200 foot game. A complete player. His play away from the puck really stands out. He will be a dominant penalty killer in the league.
Eli Baillargeon: S-T-E-A-L. Some mock drafts had him going in the 1st round - Myself included. Finished 2nd in Quebec Bantam AAA scoring in 2019/2020. Shifty and skilled. Great hands.
Kiefer Thompson: Goalie out of the Kensington Wild program. Athletic. Covers alot of the net. Faced many shots during the season. Some could argue he's the best 2005 goalie in the Maritimes.
James Richards: Has only been playing D for 2 years. Mobile defenseman. Passes are accurate and crisp. Not the most physical guy but his decision making is very good.
Mathieu Boucher: Shutdown defenseman. Plays a simple game. Puck distribution is good.
Cooper Fleming: Goalie out of the South Shore program. Another one who faced alot of shots but never gave up.
Manix Sarrasin: A project. He's raw. Hard worker.
Ryan Hackett: Simple, smart and steady defenseman. Plays with an edge.
Gus El-Tahhan: A sparkplug. In your face style player. Kid can score goals.
Yotam Klein: I got nothin'.....
Bryson Currie: 2004 born. Not the biggest player on the ice but a skilled forward. Has a chance to compete for a spot giving his age.
Keegan Warren: Son of former Wildcat - Morgan Warren. A goalie out of the East Coast Blizzard program. I don't know much about him. Wasn't used in games in the 1st half of the season, but got the call in the 2nd half and played very good. Helped the Blizzard win the NFLD Midget AAA Championship.
