Saturday game - COVID update

Our Team, led by our team Covid Manager, is working closely with public health, our medical team, and League officials to ensure the safety of everyone that enters TD Station.





The safety and health of everyone is our top priority, and so games going forward will look a little different as we restrict seating to 50% capacity.



For the upcoming games this weekend, Friday will continue as we have all season, but, in accordance with the new regulations being implemented Friday evening. The following measures will be put in effect beginning on Saturday, December 18th:



All patrons entering TD Station must be double vaccinated and have a valid government ID.

Masks must be worn at all times.

Social distancing must be maintained at all times. This includes a revised seating plan.

All concessions will be closed.

The pedway will be closed 1 1/2 hours before and 1 1/2 hours following the game.

No one will be permitted in the lobby except to enter and exit the building.

The revised seating plan will have seats sectioned off and social distanced. All fans will be required to socially distance from those outside of their groups, this means one row to the front and behind, and three seats in between each group.



Ushers will be available to aid in seating, and you will be seated on a first come, first serve basis, not based on the seats on your tickets. The only exception being those that require accommodation for mobility issues and disabilities. If you are concerned about seating, we strongly suggest arriving early to select your seats.

So - people are upset that the Mooseheads will play on Thursday under the current regulations - but it's OK for Saint John to play under the current regulations on Friday?

Or is it only OK because they didn't bump up their game?

Regulations don't come in to effect until 11:59PM in New Brunswick on Friday - so it's ok to continue with status quo - same as the Moosehead game tonight.

They've adjusted their game on Saturday for the new regulations.

Yes, people don't like that they are trying to create a larger gathering to subvert the rules.

If NS's rules are like NB's, then they are already being given an exemption to play, so this is a slap in the face to the government.

The obvious that you are missing is that it is 2 different provinces with 2 different sets of regulations. It has been the case throughout the pandemic that NB and NS have had similar but not identical restrictions and the 2 provinces don't always switch phases at the same time. Just like last season Maritime teams were allowed fans but Quebec teams weren't.

I personally am not upset that the Mooseheads switched nights to get that game in but can see both sides and understand why some people might be. But the Sea Dogs having a game as usual Friday as scheduled all along prior to the new restrictions coming into effect is an absolute non-issie.

But your questions should really be directed at those who are actually outraged at the Mooseheads for moving the game to Thursday but are fine with the Sea Dogs proceeding as planned prior to the change on restrictions. I doubt you'll find many of these individuals. Most of the outrage directed at the Mooseheads seems to be coming from within NS. I doubt they are too concerned about games in other provinces.

I missed this in the original press release, but according to the Telegraph Journal the pedway will be closed one and a half hours before the game (5:30 - 7:00) and one and a half hours after the game (9:30 - 11:00)

This is because of a recent swim meet where parents were crowding the pedway watching a swimming competition last weekend.

From Telegraph Journal:

According to Nathalie Logan, spokesperson with City of Saint John, the new temporary operational change will see these sections of the pedway closed for 90 minutes before and after planned events at either of the two sports sports facilities, while also being closed during the entirety of the events.


When sections of the pedway are closed around planned events, access to the Canada Games Aquatic Centre and TD Station will be maintained through the mains doors of the facilities.

I think they should postpone the next two games and resume operations hopefully after the Christmas break.

They have all tested negative but I'd still rather the team not risk two games for nothing.
