Figured I would start a world junior thread, for all Cormier/Brabenec/Canada news…

So excited to watch both of them compete. I will mostly, obviously, be cheering for Cormier and team Canada but also want Brabenec to do well.
It's not official that Brabenec is on the team yet is it? They haven't released an official roster yet that I am aware of.

Figured I would start a world junior thread, for all Cormier/Brabenec/Canada news… His father Mario was a real good hockey player as well. Played Jr A in Moncton (and a short stint with Val D'or in the Q) and then for UdeM. I think he also went up and played in the Quebec Senior League for a few years. They probably hated Mario on the Island back when he played as he was an easy guy to hate for opposing fans ... played tough, never backed down, a mouthy guy, scored big goals and new how to rub it in ... sort of a Brad Marchand lite. He always played with his brother or maybe it was his cousin ... Luc Cormier ... and they were a very good combo together.

Czech team not getting to play due a positive test either on their team or the Switzerland team is disappointing and worrisome. Hopefully it's either a false positive or at least hasn't spread.
Was looking forward to seeing Brabenec play today

Lukas with a PP goal! I wish they would give him a shot on the PK, I mean he does come from the team with the best PK in the Q and he does play on the pk

Brabenec officially made the team. I'm excited to watch him and Cormier play tonight.
In the 2019/2020 juniors I watched every Russia game to see Alexandrov, even cheered when he scored in the gold medal game but ultimately lost to Canada. Gonna be doing the same thing with the CZE team. Will be interesting to see how they do. I believe Bednar is their go to goalie this year as well.

I thought I had read previously that he was going to be their top goalie but I guess not lol

Sometimes when teams in the world jrs play back-to-back, they'll play their #2 goalie against the better team, and play their #1 against the team they have a better chance at beating. The Czechs may think they have less of a shot against Canada, so they could play their 2nd best option today and play their best option tomorrow when they play Germany.
Not saying that's specifically the case here, but it's been done before.

Wild first period. Brabenec with an assist on the first CZE goal. Cormier had a good chance, a goal he definitely has scored here.
Also forgot Ivan Ivan was on this CZE team and also learned his middle name is Ivan as well? Ivan Ivan Ivan

Gutted for both Cormier and Brabenec with the tournament being cancelled. I hope they both get home safe (home being PEI at least for Brabenec).
