The Sea Dogs start a busy week of 4 games with a visit the Moncton to take on the Wildcats.
This is the 3rd game in 10 days between these 2 teams (4th one on Friday in SJ) with the Dogs winning the previous two (5-0 and 6-2). The Sea Dogs are looking for their 10th win in a row while the Wildcats are looking to stop their 6 game losing streak. What is the status of Reynolds and Kuznetsov? Couture the start again?
Another win would be great.
Go Sea Dogs Go!!!

Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings: Sea Dogs Surge to #9
Returning to the national spotlight, the 2022 Memorial Cup presented by Kia host Saint John Sea Dogs have found their offensive legs with the past week’s pair of outings seeing the team combine for 10 goals. Going without a regulation loss in their past 10 contests, among the most noted contributors for the surging Sea Dogs is veteran right-wing and New York Islanders 2020 fifth-round selection William Dufour who has racked up 19 points counting seven goals and 12 assists through eight games in March.

Hurtubise will get the start. Kuznetsov and Reynolds are still out with injuries.

What is the status of Reynolds and Kuznetsov? You may have heard on the radio since asking this, but it sounds like Reynolds is day to day and could be back as soon as Thursday. Not sure about Kuznetsov but hopefully not too much longer.

Almost feel bad for the Wildcats seeing them get spanked continuously.
Only saw the first period and a half. Beautiful goal by Sevigny with the spin move.
Can't see the Sea Dogs getting any higher in the standings now. So it looks like either a Halifax or Rimouski match up in the first round?

Can't see the Sea Dogs getting any higher in the standings now. So it looks like either a Halifax or Rimouski match up in the first round? We need to do as well as possible. Round 1 is 1v8, 2v7, etc in conference. Round 2 is in conference by similar format. Round 3 is where things get interesting. If the playoffs were played with teams where they are today (ignoring Bathurst's higher point percentage), Saint John would play Halifax then possibly Quebec. After that, the four remaining teams get re-sorted 1 through 4 based on overall standings (If I am reading things correctly, Saint John could hypothetically be the 1 or 2 seed in this format even if the other teams were the division winners from the West because it says that winning a division is only used for conference seeding). So if all the top teams win (assuming that Sherbrooke is better than Gatineau but lower seeded in conference), Saint John would be in a final four with Shawinigan, Sherbrooke, and Charlottetown.

I didn't watch the game but saw the highlight package.
Scanning the analytics - there's a thing called an InStat Index that's a bit like CORSI but also adds scores to player and team totals for things like gaining a faceoff in the offensive zone and a bunch of other positive incomes.
Anyway - when you look into the Index - it says "where scouts look first." It supposedly indicates which players are ready for the next level. I don't read too much into it - but every once in awhile a few numbers will jump out. Anything over 180 kind of points to a pretty good game.
Ryan Francis shows a 213 Index. Brady Burns is 206. Sevigny showed a 196.
Vincent Labelle shows 192 to lead all Wildcats. Labelle seems to play well every time I see him. He likes to go to the net. He reminds you of Brad Marchand's OT winner against Montreal a couple of days ago - sneaky - quick - clever - and brazen. He's feisty.
The Sea Dogs had a wide margin in O Zone puck possession - 14:07 - 6:51.
Burns had 9 SOG with 8 deemed dangerous. Nobody else was close.
Lawrence was 8 for 11 on faceoffs and he must be right up there with the top guys in the league. Every single game - he shows dominant numbers. His win% is currently at 63%. I doubt there are very few players over that - if any. He usually takes a lot more draws in games than 11.
Lawrence is also a clean player. He wins over 50% of his puck battles but has only accumulated 10 PIM. He skates hard and doesn't seem to take the lazy stick penalties. He's a valuable team player.
A few players with a lot of promise on the Sea Dogs seemed to come along all at once a few years ago. Lawrence really seems to be reaching his potential. He doesn't take a shift off from what I've seen of him.
Poirier had 12 takeaways while no other player reached double digits. Poirier also had a 196 Index.
The Wildcats won 80 puck battles and the Sea Dogs 79. I like seeing teams win over 100 battles because I like a physical style - but in this situation - it probably reflects a skating game. The Sea Dogs can really skate as a team - and they can dictate the pace - and that's how they're winning.
