The Gatineau Olympiques make their only visit of the season to TD Station tonight.
The Olympiques sit first in the West Division and the Dogs are third in the Maritime Division.
First of three tough game for the Sea Dogs. Hurtubise the Start.
Missing tonight but following online.
Go Sea Dogs Go!!

Gutsy comeback win. Boys were asleep at the wheel in the first period, but once they figured out the Olympique style, they got better in the game.

Gatineau didn't let the Sea Dogs breathe. It was like watching someone slowly suffocate for 30 minutes, knowing it was coming but they couldn't do anything about it. Their pressing was unbelievable, they took forechecking to a different level than we've seen at TD station this season.
It was the first time they Sea Dogs have been truly dominated at home since the turn of the year and they deserved what they got in the opening 2 periods. Can't say enough good things about that Gatineau team. They're big. But not in a they're going to run every one down big. They're quick, quick as in they always had a 3rd or 4th player joining the rush, ready for the open pass.
Now I have 0 coaching qualifications so I can't tell you if Gatineau just blew themselves out after 30 minutes, or the Sea Dogs figured their way through the forechecking. Maybe a bit of both?
Daoust, my word. There won't be enough praise on that pass to Francis. It was perfectly waited and timed. One of the best moments of the night. Both teams deserved a point in the end and it's honestly a shame we won't face them again in the regular season.
Side note on the crowd. I get mid week games aren't as busy but that was the most empty I've seen it in a while. I know every team needs to pay their dues for mid-week games, but I get for those who may only have the budget for just memorial cup tickets or just playoff tickets, it's tough to see every game. But since the turn of the year, this team has been brilliant to watch. Gritty in the right ways, patient in the others. We've got the franchise leader in goals you know. And it won't be good next year. Won't be this good for a few years.
Another 2 massive games this weekend, and I already cannot wait.

Incredible pass on Francis’ goal and then he topped it off with the Bobby Orr goal in OT Surprised there hasn’t been more chatter on that this morning. Senators were retweeting the OT goal which was pretty cool. Also agree on the crowds. Exciting team, more people should be enjoying these games. Has to be a little disappointing for the players and management

Has to be a little disappointing for the players and management He is honestly brilliant. Never gives up on a play. Can't wait to see him in the run in. Looking at it realistically, coming out of Covid times and now with life prices being inflated, the "entertainment" is always the first fund to dry up first. So I do get it. Playoffs are only guaranteed for 2/3 games with new format. And we are either playing Rimouski or Halifax. Teams we should get past but anything can happen in a 5 game series. It would probably be bad marketing for next year, but I'm not sure casual fans understand how different, young and probably quite weak they will be next year. Plus with the lack of draft picks for the next few years, they'll be a selling club. A great team has been built for this run in and deserves more eyes on them! Bring on the weekend. Big game against the Titan on Saturday. Thankfully we've still got about 4 more games against Cape Breton lol.

It was a pretty good game to watch on CHL Hockey. Camera work was great and the broadcaster did a really good job. While most teams go to a still shot of the team logo between periods - the Sea Dogs guy does an in-depth look at things like the standings - the schedule and which teams are visiting in the week ahead - a look at the stats leaders and so on. I'm sorry that I don't know his name.
They showed a few shots of the end zone which I figured was the "Ice Bar" - and Gardiner MacDougall of UNB was immediately recognizable.
It was my first look at guys like Cole Cormier (I believe he's Derek's son); speedy Sammy Savoie; big Noah Warren (6'5"); Tristan Luneau (1st overall pick in 2020); crafty Pinard who's always dangerous - and they're a skilled team but not overly deep. Donovan Asrenault (who opened the scoring) is from PEI, and Will Chisholm played last year for the South Shore Lumberjacks and was a walk-on in training camp.
Puck Battles Won: SJ 102 Gatineau 90.
O Zone Puck Possession: Almost even - 14 seconds apart.
Scoring Chances: SJ 15 Gat. 14
TOI SJ: D Sevigny (28:21); F Dufour (24:20) TOI Gat: D Boutin (22:56); F Bizier (19:32)
Index SJ: Francis (201); Daoust (188) Index Gat: Verreault (211); Donovan Arsenault (195)
Faceoffs SJ: Cam MacDonald 10/18 - first time it hasn't been Lawrence since I've been doing this Faceoffs Gat: Dizier 12/21
Hits SJ: Lessard and Cam MacDonald 3 each Hits Gat: Don Arsenault and Cole Cormier 2 each
Shot Blocks: Poirier 5; several with 2 for Gatineau
Takeaways SJ: Charlie DesRoches (19) - most I've seen this season. Takeaways Gat: Belliveau (12)
3 STARS:
1. Daoust - Scored the winner outstretched across the goal mouth to get his stick on it and sweep it into the open far side. Threaded a Gretzky-Kurri style pass through two defenders with Francis on the move to pick it up in behind them and go in all alone to deke to the BH for a beauty (both plays are on the highlight reel). His best play might actually have been just before the Francis goal where he stickhandled from his knees in the slot and came close to scoring from the lip of the blue paint. Best game I've seen him play - of several big games.
2. Verreault - Scored a pair and had the game's biggest Index at 211. He's only 5'8" but plays like a bull.
3. Francis - He isn't the flashiest player - but always seems to make highlight reel plays at the right times with timely goals by getting in behind the D to bury a breakaway - or sniping a goal from the top of the circle bar down. He has a knack for stepping up when most needed. The bigger the game - or the more important the minutes - the better he seems to play.
These are two really good teams.

I know that Dufour is the goal and point leader, but he hasn't impressed me the last 5 games or so. Too many giveaways, lazy plays, trying to stick work himself through 4 people. He is brilliant when he is fed the puck in shooting or scoring position but I find him a liability when he is trying to make a play. Was actually pleasantly surprised he fed the puck to Daoust in OT. Thought he would have tried it himself.

Any word on when Kuznetsov is expected back? I've been hearing "soon" for about a month now so take that for what it's worth. Same as I did with Lessard. I suspect that since we're guaranteed a spot in the Memorial Cup that they are being extra cautious about not bringing guys back too soon.
