The 2022 draft kicks off tomorrow night with the first round happening Monday evening followed by rounds 2 through 14 beginning on Tuesday morning.
We don't have an abundance of high picks for this year's draft.
The Islanders currently have the following selections:
Round Selection 3 51st overall (She) 4 71st overall 7 117th oveall (Drum) 7 125th overall 8 143rd overall 10 179th overall 11 197th overall 12 215th overall 13 233rd overall 14 251st overall
There's always the possibility that there could be more dealing in the works to accumulate much needed additional picks.

It may not happen, but I would be surprised if the Isles didn't end up with a 1st rd pick for tonight...or an early 2nd rd pick.

I guess the big question will be if we deal away additional 20 y/o players here at the draft. We are still sitting on a surplus. Is there a deal to be had where we ship away a veteran player for 2022 picks?

I guess the big question will be if we deal away additional 20 y/o players here at the draft. We are still sitting on a surplus. Is there a deal to be had where we ship away a veteran player for 2022 picks? As you posted in the other thread, as of now, our 20yr list looks like: Zachary Roy Keiran Gallant Owen Saye Patrick LeBlanc Dawson Stairs William Trudeau Jeremie Biakabatuka Ryan Maynard Francesco Lapenna I deleted Cormier as he will be playing pro. Here is my list of 20's that I personally feel could possible play in the league next season. Zachary Roy Keiran Gallant Patrick LeBlanc Dawson Stairs William Trudeau Jeremie Biakabatuka Francesco Lapenna I left out Saye and Maynard. Not saying that they cannot play as a 20....i will put them on the bubble of playing....but I just wanted to list, my opinion, the players that should be in this league this season as 20's. So that leaves seven 20's currently on our roster....9 if you count Maynard and Saye......and we can only keep 3. So moves will need to be made.

There's definitely some tap dancing to do. I see the merit in bring back Gallant as one of our 20 y/o players. Then beyond that, I would probably opt to use Roy (and build his value for a mid-season trade) and Trudeau (under the assumption that he is back... and he's also useful in a trade at mid-season). Last year we kept Bailey Peach around as "Simoneau insurance" (in case he played pro) and reached a spot where we couldn't trade him in the league. This year, when we are non-contending, there isn't the same need to do this with Trudeau (i.e. retain Biakabatuka in case Trudeau goes pro). If we get caught up in this, I feel that Maynard is a decent blueline option if we have to go to him at the the eleventh hour.
With dealing 20's, it's tricky because there are only 54 spots available league wide and it doesn't necessarily mean that the best 54 20 y/o players are the ones who fill all the slots. Dealing top end 20's involves a dear price, but just a tier below those top end ones and you are likely getting a deal on your investment if you are acquiring 20 y/o players. In part it is supply and demand, but it's also due to the fact that these players are soon to be exiting the league.
Using my list above, it would mean we'd be looking to find a home for LeBlanc, Stairs, Biakabatuka, and Frankie. LeBlanc's injury makes him tough to deal, but I do think he has potential for a strong 20 y/o season. Stairs is a guy who has his fans but also his detractors. I think he can play as a 20 y/o on any team in the league. If dealing Frankie, you're on the lookout for a team who's looking to use the 20 y/o slot on a goalie, so that limits the market.
Right now, I don't think any of those guys warrant a first round selection coming back to us. We are just not talking about that tier of 20 y/o player. I think that Roy and Trudeau could be capable of bring back a 2023 1st if they each have a strong first half in our lineup.
What's been the deal for 20 y/o players so far this summer?
I'll not list all the deals from Saturday, but most of the trades involving 20 y/o players involve mid-round picks (3rd-4th-5th). If we're dealing Stairs or Biakabatuka, we're probably fetching a couple of picks in that range. Roy would be worth more, but I'd probably hold off on dealing him now unless a 1st was in play (not likely). Lapenna as a goaltender, it a complete wildcard.
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in the next couple of days.

Yeah i don't see any earth shattering deals to be made..... best case Lapenna gets you a couple decent picks from somebody but i cannot see him being able to get us a 1st

As of deadline time, the Islanders’ first pick is slated for the third round, 51st overall.
“Our draft board is completed right now,” Hulton told the SaltWire Network in a phone interview on July 4. “There are a lot of conversations happening between now and this evening, now and tomorrow to add some more draft picks.
“We are not sure if any of it will become a reality, but we will wait and see.”
Hulton said the organization understands it is at the start of a retooling, so the higher the team can move on the draft board the better.
Hulton said, sitting where the Islanders are now, the team will look to take the best player available.
“Generally, that’s our philosophy,” said Hulton. “I don’t think it’s any secret we have always valued high-end elite defencemen, so restocking some of that will be a priority.”

Other then trying to get some picks, they need to get some players back from the trades made today.
Too many open slots.
Cannot go with just picks........Hulton needs to bring in some bodies.
