Is there any new draft picks with a chance of making our roster? There is tons of opportunity this year

In total, they selected 12 players.
5 forwards 5 defensemen 2 goaltenders
D Marcus Kearsey – Pick 32
“I’m extremely honoured to be selected by such a great organization. From the moment I saw the selection until now I’ve been provided with tremendous amounts of support from the Islanders, coaches, scouts, staff, and even some of the players”, commented Kearsey.
“It’s truly an unforgettable feeling to see my name show up next to Charlottetown.”
Kearsey describes his game as being a mobile, offensive-based, puck-moving defenseman with fluid skating both forwards and backwards.
He says Islanders fans can expect to see a defensemen generating offence at high speeds who also brings a high level of intensity every game.

Kearsey sounds like a great pick up. Hopefully a couple of the new draftees can jump right into the lineup.

Also, Topilnyckyj will be a regular on the backend next season too.

Marcus Kearsey
“We thought he was a sure-fire first rounder and didn’t think he would be there in the second (round),” said Islanders general manager and head coach Jim Hulton in an interview with SaltWire Network at the end of the draft. “So, when he was, we had to get aggressive to land him.
“We think we got one of the most mobile, young defencemen in the draft. To start off the day like that, certainly put us in good stead, and we liked our additions along the way the whole day.”
“We had him rated extremely high,” said Islanders general manager and head coach Jim Hulton. “He’s a kid who had some NCAA options, so I think that scared some of the teams off.”
Kearsey told SaltWire Network he plans on attending training camp with the goal of earning a roster spot for the 2022-23 season.
“They were a great team this year, and I’m sure in the future they will be just as good,” said Kearsey, 16. “I’m excited to be drafted by such a good organization.”
Asked to describe himself as a player, Kearsey said he’s an offensive defenceman who likes to handle the puck and compares himself to Lukas Cormier, who completed his fourth year with the Islanders and is expected to make the jump to pro hockey next year.
Kearsey said he takes pride in his skating and plays with intensity.

I would say Kearsey and Michaud will almost certainly be on the team next year
Topilnickyj and Arsenault who we both got glimpses of last year should be as well
also won't be surprised by someone from later in the draft making a Hulton impression and cracking the roster as well
certainly alot of open spots available
as of now
Lapenna-Satny-Flanagan??
Trudeau-Biakabatuka-Topilnyki-Squires- Semard-Sancy-Kearsey- McQuaid??
Brabanec-Boyd-Gallant Todd-Horth-Bowness Arsenault-Michaud-Allen then a mismash from there
definitely need to find a vet body or two on waivers or cheap adds around training camp... or free agent invites

It will be the reality that some of our 2022 selections will not attend camp or will leave after 48 hours to keep NCAA eligible. It's nothing to grouch or complain about. It's just the reality of selecting 16 y/o players who may opt to pursue one pathway or the other. Sometimes there are high end guys you gamble on.... but there are just as many (if not more) deep picks who choose to keep NCAA an option in case they spike in their development as they get a little older.
Who from our 2022 selections are unlikely to be part of our camp based on NCAA options?
Matt Butler is planning to be off to Shattuck St. Mary's in Minnesota for the 22-23 season.
Jack McMinn was identified as a player planning on pursuing the NCAA route.
Any others?

We also have pick #33 and select Alexis Michuad, a winger out of Seminaire St. Francois in the Quebec U18 So, the trade was Plando. 19yrs old. Played mostly 3rd pairing behind a very strong D core last season. Equaled his career best last season with 17pts from the backend. For Alexis Michaud, 16yrs old, who apparently had a good camp and earned a spot on the roster. And a 4th rd pick in 2024. Knowing Michaud has been impressive looking thus far, as a 16yr old, and apparently made the roster, how do people feel about the trade now? The same?

I think at this point we have to wait and see how he performs against full teams in the regular season. Obviously there is some potential there.

I always felt Plando was a bit overrated…but also, I thought we could’ve gotten more for him.
So if Michaud turns out to be a player, sure, I’ll take that trade any day. But for now, it’s a bit too early to tell

When you consider what we paid to acquire plandowski originally and then sold on him cheaply because of how deep our blueline was the last two years its still not great asset management overall
However we dont know how plandowski will do nor how michaud will perform and a fourth round pick that may ir may not be used or play in the league at all… kinda hard to make an evaluation now
