I see Welsh’s name here a lot, why? He’s 19, he’s got 35 career Q games and he’s a borderline Q guy at absolute best. If you want to bring him in and let teams shell him instead of the young guys, I can understand that but he isn’t bringing in a wealth of experience to the roster. I've thought the same since 2019 basically. If his name was Zach Wilson or something he'd never get talked about. But he's Zach Welsh, brother of Nick Welsh and Matt Welsh, two guys who were basically the definition of "extremely good 5-year junior hockey players." He was over drafted, instead of being a 2nd round guy, he probably should have gone in the 4th. He was then rushed, instead of playing in the MHL at 16, he should have been back in AAA playing big minutes in every situation and then he could have been given his shot in the Q at 17. Do things go differently, we’ll never know but he’s not a Q guy now. If you want to bring him up to have him shelled and have him as depth for injuries, then I can get behind that but I don’t see anything he brings that a multitude of other guys don’t bring.

Who is everyone liking for our top D lines so far? Today (and healthy), it is: Tivey - Desroches Bilodeau - Despont Tracey - Cosman That being said, Akkouche is not far behind Tracey. As much as him playing D bewildered us all, once he got the nerves of the first game out of the way, he's actually been decent. There might be some real potential there that he could become a good defenseman. Richard is behind the others due to his skating, so hopefully they continue working on that and continue working on speeding him up. He's going to have growing pains and we won't know if this is the best place to be right away, but as long as he gets to play, and he continues to improve, he should be fine. Keep in mind that Tivey and Bilodeau are hard to rate against each other because they are each such wonderful fits for their specific partner. Personally, when I looked at the weekend, I didn't want to call up a D like Welsh (not that we can, we'd have to sign him), I wanted us to call up a forward for Friday's game (like Beaudry) so we could roll 12FW. The fact that we didn't and played 11/7 tells me that Akkouche is a D long term (and from I've seen, his potential as a D actually looks better).

I like that lineup! For a rebuilding team it is a good core of D man, and I agree Akkouche is doing a great job back on D.
