Tonight is the opener of the first 3 in 3 of the year.
Highly likely that the Dogs get spanked 3 straight this weekend facing the best two teams in the league (2 and 3 in the country) and the 6th best team in the league.

Soundly spanked as expected. Looks like they really ran out of gas the last half of today’s game.
Does anyone know if Shingarov is hurt? Saw he was changed out of yesterday’s game and not immediately after a goal against. Bordeaux took over and played the whole game today.

He was swapped out after a goal, then Brideau's skate broke soon after, so he had to come back in until the next stoppage.

I think both goalies played fairy well. It was a uphill battle for a young team playing 3 very talented teams night after night after night. I some of the D looked pretty week at times. Despont is playing very well this year, and I really like the young guy Bilodeau.

Desroches only played against Sherbrooke. The rest of the weekend, Tivey had to play with (insert D here).
Despont and Bilodeau are a decent pair. Tivey and Charlie are a decent pair. Akkouche is playing pretty well on D as well. A huge part of the last two games being so lopsided was simply elite players being on the ice against younger guys (or against a 5 FW PP as SJ tried desperately not to burn out the D).
There was no way that that wasn't going to be a drubbing, and I am happy that they only lost by 17 goals (especially given that our clear cut #1 only played 1 game of 3).
We essentially had to throw our D to the wolves the last two games. It would have been nice if Tracey was healthy to give us another option, but that wasn't in the cards.

I agree, I think if Tracey was back and Desroches things might have been a little better. Id still love to see Welsh back to give a bit more experience. Tivey looks solid and Desponte looks good this year. Very pleased with Akkouche. Richard looked very slow and a lot of give aways but he is only young.

He’s 19, he’s got 35 career Q games and he’s a borderline Q guy at absolute best. If you want to bring him in and let teams shell him instead of the young guys, I can understand that but he isn’t bringing in a wealth of experience to the roster.

I agree he isnt a superstar but just feel he has more experience to offer the team then some of the young kids who might be better off going back to AAA just to build some confidence. It was like Richard panicked every time he had the puck and ended up giving it away. I know we have a young team and I know they need to learn just thought someone who has played at this level might be able to help get the young guys used of playing at this level

Sometimes playing at the highest level is confidence enough. Playing at a lower level might not inspire confidence and may develop bad habits. Those mistakes being made now may just mean less mistakes later on. There is no perfect method to developing talent.

Welsh isn't really a Q player....junior A maybe, but he adds really nothing to Saint John. The rebuild will be painful and lots of lessons to learn. I'd rather run young and develop them then have a player who is 19 and not really well suited for the rebuild.

I've thought the same since 2019 basically. If his name was Zach Wilson or something he'd never get talked about. But he's Zach Welsh, brother of Nick Welsh and Matt Welsh, two guys who were basically the definition of "extremely good 5-year junior hockey players."

I'd rather run young and develop them then have a player who is 19 and not really well suited for the rebuild. I get what you're saying here, and I am willing to defer to people on here who have obviously seen much more of him than me, but surely there is a good argument for it when we look at the context here. I get why playing borderline Q 19 YO doesn't make sense for developing teams. But SJ is playing a winger on defence and only have 3 defensemen who have ever played a Q game prior to this year. If Akkouche is being permanently transitioned, then yeah Welsh makes no sense. But if he's not, it isn't helping anyone's development to play him at D. If you bring in Welsh, at least you do something to prevent the kids from getting shelled rather than making one of them develop next to a winger playing out of position. My guess is Tracey/Derochers are close so there's no point in a call up. But I think SJ's situation makes Welsh at least make SOME sense where he wouldn't on most teams.
