Honest question. I attended my first games in the past few years on Friday and Sunday. I was not impressed with Barbashev at all. Did he have a bad weekend? I noticed in third he was on a different line, think that was to try and spread offense or a kick in his ass. ?

I think it is fair to say Barbs had an underwhelming weekend by his standard. From what I have seen throughout the season is he complements that top line and brings some physicality with his offensive touch. It was evident Lacroix was doing some juggling, for some reason the staff seem very high on free agent Bishop. Daniel was rewarded for his strong plan and Mercier got some extra ice likely after being scratched the previous night. Probably a combination of both. It will be interesting to see what happens with Barbashev after Christmas, I could see a contender wanting to add him to their middle 6.

Hats off to him to him for taking a shot off the chin in the Mooseheads game last night in the first period and coming back out to finish the game. I always wonder about these baseball players who get hit by a pitch in the leg and have to leave the game. Hockey players are as tough as nails.

Barbashev has quietly scored in 7 straight games and doesn't look like he is going anywhere.

Barbashev has quietly scored in 7 straight games and doesn't look like he is going anywhere. The Wildcats managed to get great value for a #50 euro pick. I think most had him as a Wildcard when they picked him. He was billed as quite small before he came here, and eventually filled out to be closer to the size of a power forward. There was very little in terms of scouting information and I believe he played in a lower tier league than what Ivan played in. He basically blossomed into an "lite" version of his brother, I think best he can hope for in terms of a ceiling is a 3rd/4th line NHL player. Barring a trade, he will play a pivotal role in any playoff series the Cats have.

He isn't skilled enough to be a top 6 guy, not gritty/hard working enough to be a role player. I think he can eventually be a good player in lower leagues long term, KHL SHL Swiss etc Definitely a good pick for the Cats. They need to hit on this year's Euro pick as well as the VD 1st. They need impact skill.

For the Euro pick, I would prefer we run with Fillion and Steinman for 2023-24.

You can look at that again in 2-3 months.
