Another guy playing well is Jack Martin. Calm, composed, makes the right play. He's been very solid. Yea. He doesn't blow you away with anything in particular, but for a rookie he looks like a guy with 100+ regular season games under his belt and has foe most of the season. The confidence he has to just play his game... he doesn't make mistakes by trying to do too much to stand out. 1He's just... steady. He's a very different player, but he reminds me of Alex Tessier, comes in at 17 and just immediately has the confidence to hang with the vets. He's the kind of guy coaches and teammates love.

Composed is the exact word that comes to mind when I see him play. It's almost odd how calm and composed he is in his rookie year. As citrus says, he doesn't blow you away with anything in particular, but he just gets the job done. Almost boring really. Which I guess is exactly what the coaches want from their defencemen.
I just went and looked at his stats. For the limited time he gets on the ice, he has half decent numbers. He seems to just quietly fly under the radar. This is another example of how well Cam Russell and scouting staff do year after year when it comes to drafting outside the first couple of rounds. Martin went late in 3rd which now looks like a great bargain.

Jack Martin is 13th in his draft class in defenseman scoring. He was the 17th defenseman taken in the 2021 draft. For the amount he plays he's done pretty well.
Etienne Morin is by far the best dman from that draft class. Fun hypothetical: If you were the Mooseheads and you knew what you know now, and Morin was off the board, would you take MacKinnon, or Jordan Tourigny?

Peddle hasn't filled the net like once thought, Collard has been a pretty big flop. Morin, Gauthier, Cataford, MacKinnon, Squires probably would be my redraft order with hindsight. For the Mooseheads specifically, MacKinnon over Tourigny all day the way the roster is constructed. MacKinnon gives us something the rest of the roster doesn't have. Tourigny doesn't give us anything that we don't already have in Furlong.

I'm fine with the MacKinnon pick vs the others in the draft. He brings an element to the game others don't, while still having a pretty good all around game.
He needs to calm down a bit lately lol. I love the energy and enthusiasm, but he gets himself out of position a lot or tries to do too much with the puck. There's are times when he's the last guy back and he takes unnecessary risks. Its a great play if it works. It's an odd man rush or breakway if it doesn't. As the playoffs continue, you can't afford to have guys running around giving teams like Sherbrooke odd man rushes or grade A chances due to a self inflicted mistake.

Your question about being the Mooseheads and basically having hindsight 2 years after on that draft I think isn’t fair. Here what I’ll say hindsight wise is they should have taken Cataford then MacKinnon. The players they took were the right for Halifax. Morin and Tourigny are both great but like what’s been said MacKinnon has that grit that’s is needed back there. Plus players like Schultz and Furlong are occupying the space the players you’re talking about would. If we didn’t have said players yeah maybe Halifax should have taken them. Now as if there’s no teams and no roster yeah the draft would probably look way different. But even saying that pretty much everyone would say Cataford is top 3 but does Cataford have the numbers he does if Dumais isn’t here? I’m pretty sure he doesn’t so do we still think what we think of him? Yes I think he’s still a great player but the whole hindsight I feel he’s 3rd on the new list but once again how inflated is that because of Dumais?
