Just a topic to get some conversation going…
The team had posted about suggestions for themed nights for the upcoming year.
A lot of people seem to want a PEI Rocket throwback night, which I think would be cool…but on the other hand, the organization finally turned the page on that part of history and we’re in a good spot.
Sure, they were the team that brought major junior hockey to the island…but were there really that many good memories of the team?
I have to admit, I didn’t go to a ton of games during that time. But, they rarely had a decent team, made bad decisions on/off the ice, etc…and now the team has been kind of doing the opposite for the most part.
Obviously I’m thinking too much into it, and the jerseys would be cool to see…but, what do you guys think about it?

The ultimate sign that the team has turned the corner on the Rocket era would be to have a Rocket night and have it not detract from the current team (like Alpines night in Moncton, which works because the Wildcats have been successful). That's the sign that Hulton and Co have truly ended all the horror from the Savard era.

I wouldn't really say they didn't have a decent team, they were almost like the Q's Washington Capitals or Leafs. They'd put together a decent season but faltered in the playoffs. We had good players on the team and some great memories like Duffy and Currie becoming our first 100 point players.
We were also victim to a horrible playoff format that punished the top teams in the Atlantic division.
But I agree that having a Rocket night would be great to really show off how much the franchise has grown over the years.

I'm an outsider, so my opinion doesn't mean much, but that said I'm kinda torn on the idea of a rocket throwback night.
AHL throwback nights were kinda cool just because of how different they were, but... the Rockey branding was... awful.
At least with something like the Alpines it's a bit wacky and out there, they have an interesting color scheme too.
The rocket? It's bland. Red, white, blue, default reebok template with default block letters and numbers. The Rocket branding was like somebody booted up NHL23 and created a team with all settings on default.
If you're going to do it, you have to throw back to at least 2007-08, before the Reebok edge era, where at least they had a unique number font to give them SOMETHING that stands out.
Also I did some googling just to look through the old jersey sets with fresh eyes and... well the google results for "PEI Rocket" are mostly unflattering. There are two ways to look at this - a Rocket night will push those older google results about a team struggling financially, an assault charge, and vintage e-bay trading cards etc. down and replace them with some more positive results... but also if that's the legacy the Rocket brand left behind... is it really worth dredging back up?
As far as I can tell, there's no tacky, classic jingle associated with the brand that could be brought back for a night, either. There's an old mascot but, does that thing still exist? I can't imagine if the original is out there it's in good shape.
The tl;dr - If I were a brand manager I'd want no part of that revival, even for a night. There's more interesting things you could do with the Islanders branding, and they have in the past, like the players night they did.
