After a few months of no hockey, we are back on the ice this evening in pre-season action.
The Islanders hopefuls visit Saint John for a matchup at 7:00.
I always find it exciting to see these preseason games rolling around. Some guys will emerge and find their way on the roster in these games. For others, these games might be the only time the see action as a QMJHL player.
I'm sure we will see a game roster released later in the day.

The game will be free to view on CHLtv....unless I'm mistaken.

Will be interesting to see if there’s any fights here in the preseason.
Usually, there’s always a guy or two that drop the gloves looking to make a name for themselves. Now with the new rules, are coaches looking for that? Is it worth the suspension for the player?

Whether coaches are looking for it or not, that’s a different story I guess. But there’s always going to be value in somebody who can stick up for their teammates, getting in there after the whistle giving a guy a few shots…obviously he’s gotta be able to play too

Only selected preseason games are going to be streamed. We are on in September. Sherbrooke and Drummondville is the only game on tonight. The game will be free to view on CHLtv....unless I'm mistaken.

SJ has had no fighting in camp policy for years (we've allowed it in preseason games when they allowed it). I believe that this is a common policy for most teams.

Personally, I think that the Q taking fighting out of the game is the wrong choice. It’s a part of hockey and always has been. Will there still be fights? Probably, but at this point VERY little with the “new rules”. There are more people hurt during hockey plays than actually fighting. I completely disagree with it but it is what it is I guess. 🤷🏽♂️

I’ll speak on it - it was ridiculous. I know everyone is playing for a spot and technically no one should ever feel comfortable but fighting your own team? Ridiculous. I get it - there is adrenaline, nerves and young testosterone all in the mix so emotions are heightened but I still stand by my statement. It was really ridiculous to witness. And I’m not anti fighting in hockey. But seeing it in a scrimmage is another story.

Probably, but at this point VERY little with the “new rules”. There are more people hurt during hockey plays than actually fighting. I completely disagree with it but it is what it is I guess. 🤷🏽♂️ It's not a black and white part of hockey, though. Who doesn't watch the World Juniors because they don't allow fighting? What about Olympics/Worlds/World Cups? Our elite of the elite have played without fighting pretty regularly. And...there are more people hurt during hockey plays than actually fighting? Says what? There were more injuries when every team had 3 goons at the end of the bench. There have been brutal injuries during fights. Yes, there are injuries playing the sport but can we really not see the difference between the KO on a clean hit to the chest and the KO during a fight? You can disagree with it but the reality is that there hasn't really been fighting in the Q for years now. People are acting like it's 2005 and the world just drastically changed. The teams started making this transition many years ago. But to just use baseless claims like there's more injuries now then there was with the fighting that happened is just beyond silly because there's nothing to back up the claim. But I promise those following are seeing a lot less injuries due to needless violence then at any point in this leagues history and to think thats a bad thing that turns fans away is just silly. The game has evolved past needing silly violence to settle scores. The NCAA doesn't have fighting and nobody has ever questioned whether an NCAA player can transition to pro hockey. I'll leave my reply with this: No league has ever seen the stick work that fighting advocates claim will come from not having fighting at a certain level. That is constantly brought up in these discussions and whether its CIS, NCAA, WJHC I have yet to witness a brutal stick incident or multiple due to the lack of fighting. If anything the ability to fight and refusing has brought out those incidents in the hockey I have followed. Now with no fighting there is a certain maturity and discipline showed on the ice rather than expecting an 18yr old neanderthal to earn a pro job with his fists when the same guy can't skate or handle a puck. Long term the game will be better for the change. We're already seeing considerably less violence and almost no major incidents if you compare to 15 or 20 years ago. So keep telling yourself less injuries happened before but there's not an ounce of truth to it.

great post Jack agree wholeheartedly
admit to enjoying the occasional donnybrook but also admit that there is absolutely no reason for it anymore..... honestly there never truly was
if more skilled kids play the game the game is better off then turning hockey players into goons

Does anyone know if the pre season games are covered on 93.1 radio like regular season games?
