I don’t think anything has been officially announced, but Niko Boudreau played for the Miramichi Timberwolves last night. It was pretty ovbious he was the odd man out at this point, but I guess that makes it official.
To make it super weird, the TWolves have Boudreau, as well as former Isles, Jacob Goobie and Jack Flanagan…
They also had a different backup goalie last night so I’m not sure what they’re doing with all these goalies. Not sure Goobie has ever reported there and maybe Flanagan has been traded, not sure

Niko Boudreau is off to a good start with Mirimichi of the MHL.
The 17yr old is 4-0 with a 2.75 GAA and a .923 SV%.

That is a great start for Boudreau, for sure.
I'd like to see him get some game action in at 17.
I'm wondering if Ozols could be in the mix to play for Latvia at the World juniors. He has experience in their national program at the U-18 tournament last season. Last year Latvia used 3 2003 born goalies, so they'll be using new netminders at the tournament this year.
If Ozols gets selected by Latvia (great experience for him!) then it would be a great chance to see Boudreau through a stretch of games and practices.

Seems like Mirimichi were going with 3 netminders.
Boudreau
Flanagan
Trépanier
Trépanier has recently been traded to Pictou County.......to leave the goaltending duties to Boudreau and Flanagan.
Goobie has not reported.

Goobie should be playing in the QMJHL. I’ll strongly advocate for goalies being exempt from 20 y/o rules. They develop at a slower pace and need that opportunity to play lots of games at 18, 19, and 20. If teams were permitted to carry a 20 y/o goalie and not have him count as a 20 y/o player I think we’d see more goalies graduate from the Q to become pro players. As for Goobie, is there ever a scenario where we could see him here to finish his major junior career? Given how well he’s played, it looks like a strong possibility they will try to sell high on Horth. If they are not sold on Bickle as a netminder, do they ever consider bringing in Goobie as our 3rd 20 to finish his junior career. Seems like Mirimichi were going with 3 netminders. Yes enough time has passed
Goobie's career just never took off like it looked like it should..... when drafted he was the heir apparent to Matthew Welsh..... he even played as a 16 year old

And I think if he's been outright released he would be able to sign with us regardless of when we traded him away. But I'm not sure... maybe Drummondville still owns his rights and he would be subject to a trade. Goobie was a non-option last year. He's not a QMJHL goalie. Even if goalies were exempt there's no way he gets a job in this league. |
