I had to work Friday in Moncton so I went to the game. Overall it was a good fast game. Moncton has more overall skill than us but the boys played hard. We just don’t have enough top end forwards to compete with them. Beveridge plays with some edge for a small guy. Thought Woods had a pretty good game for his first one with the team. He is a big kid. Akkouche Was using his speed all night. D overall looked better. Amyot got caught a few times to the outside one which they scored on. I noticed Ianniello looked hurt in 3rd but kept playing. Hope he is ok.

The problem with this team is they don't play Bathurst often enough.

The problem with this team is they don't play Bathurst often enough. Or that they consistently see midget calibre reffing. That's two consecutive games where a blatant match penalty wasn't called.

Not to mention the Sea Dogs PP is abysmal with today being one of its worst games (which is saying a lot), so I'm not sure I'd have expected much to happen had that match penalty been called. It's extremely unlikely 5 goals would have been scored, at least not all by the Sea Dogs. That being said, some of the calls against when the game was still winnable seemed pretty weak. I'd like to get another look at the boarding call against Mann and the goalie interference against Gauthier. There were some questionable calls the other way too, but with the Sea Dogs special teams being as awful as they were today, it didn't do them much good to trade phantom calls.

Sea Dogs were at the end of a 3 in 4 and Quebec at the end of a 3 in 3 but the Remparts had more jump... and a better PP.
The call against Mann was indeed questionable. He got the "big guy who's too strong" treatment like Komarov often does. But the call against Gauthier was right. He went straight for the goalie and never stopped.

There was a missed too many men for Quebec where then actually did a break in with 6 players and continued playing for a good 15 seconds and it eventually led to a goal
I figured since Mat Hicks likes to be the center of attention for things he would have called the too many men but then remembered he either a) ruins the ice in a game or b) makes the most obscure calls in the league final and since neither of these are applicable he decided against it.

The 4 refs on the ice can call a too many men and they all missed it.

This team needs to make some sort of change. Things are not working. I can see a real problem just looking at the stats. We have one PPG forward, we have 3 just below, and then things drop off. Right now, Mateiko, Reynolds, Elie, and Reinhart are clear cut top 6 forwards. I think Simek can still be one, but he's consistently playing with only one of the 4. Right now, Akkouche is arguably our 6th best forward. Mateiko - Reynolds - Simek Akkouche - Elie - Reinhart After that, Beveridge and Bellemare looked good together, but we don't have anyone to play with them that won't kill the line. We have a lot of 4th liners. I would be tempted to try Woods with the B's and see how that works. On D, SJ is a mess. Ianniello is not playing particularly well defensively, but he's providing the offense. We are playing the crap out of our 6-7-8 D on our roster and they look overmatched regularly. You could build the best D in the league, and if we don't have the puck a lot, they are going to look bad. Mann is slowly rounding into form, but he's a 19 year-old project D (the best case scenario IMO, is that he pulls a Sauve and everything clicks and we get a few months of very good). Gauthier was acquired fairly cheap, and he is what he is. He's still playing well IMO, but it is ridiculous for him to be playing FW on the PP.

Realistically this team is in a rebuild so what do you do. The team is now in the basement of the eastern conference. Best case senior something clicks and they move up and get info a better position. That being said you know they need to sell anything that is good and build for the future. When is the future? If you look up front what do you keep and what do you trade? Is the 05 group good enough to build around? I don’t think so but I could be wrong. The PP has been terrible as we all know and on the PK we make it to east for the players in front of the net. They beat us to rebounds which is an issue. I agree Mann has been better the last two games but was he worth what was given up for him. On the D side beside Tivey who else will teams actually want to trade for? As for the 6,7,8 D they will need to be better and I feel they will. Two of the three it’s their first year in the Q and need time to get use to the speed of the game. Goaltending has been a bright spot so far.
