Great game by the Cats in Halifax, Loshing will probably score 40 goals this season, Sumpf had 2 nice goals , moncton seems to have 3 good balanced scoring lines that should get better as the season goes. Steinman made some really nice saves to keep the cats in the game.
If moncton is building for next year , I wouldn't tinker with the current lineup to much unless they can pick up a good 18 year old faceoff guy for a decent price and a good physical top 3-4 D-man ( missing Hamel this season). They have speed and a good transition game already that they can build on.

Desnoyers is going to be a special player in this league. Coming off a shortened preseason/camp off an injury, he is already proving he can be a big game player. He just always seems to make the right play when the puck is on his stick, not something you see much at that age. When you can pass the puck the way he can in close quarters and bring a wrist shot like you saw last night its going to be tough to defend against him especially as he adds strength.
Whatever Lacroix does, please don't separate that top line.
The early positives
- Desnoyers impact
- Mueller's improvement from last season, must have put in some good work over the summer. His current play gives him an edge over Auger as a 20 for next season.
- Sumpf & Collard have been great additions. Collard is a well rounded power forward who should be a 25-30 goal guy and bring a physical element in the playoffs. Have no issue with the price paid.
-Team discipline - 3rd least penalized team in the league
The negatives
-Morin is not playing his best hockey right now, has had some bad turnovers. I'm sure he'll come around.
-Turnovers and defensive play needs to be better, not so confident on this one given it seems to be Lacroixs MO
-AFG progress is slower than I was expecting, he seems to be trying to add more offense to his game but that isn't necessarily what we need from him right now.
-Unless there's more coming in the trade I would have sooner kept Barbashev and traded Trenholm for picks. I dont see Glas as guy they stick with next season. He should be able to be replaced with someone more high end next draft. Barbashev is far more dynamic of a player than Trenholm and I find it still hard to process you trade the guy who scored the biggest goal of the season.

Not this fuckin shit again. He's on pace for 52 goals and the only time he missed last year was cause by a contagious infection. At his current pace with his games played the last 2 seasons Talking about 40 goals is far from "premature". At his current pace if he played the same amount of games as last year he'd end up with 44 goals.

Agree Loshing scoring 40+ seems pretty imminent. Last year was an illness and not an injury issue.
This team is deeper than initially thought and will only get better as guys get more time. Only 8 guys on the roster have played 100 games in the league and they are the 5th youngest team in the Q.
If 2025 is the year I'd let them play this year and gain experience and make the necessary tweaks in the offseason. Moving an older guy at Christmas to allow Carrier more consistent development minutes will be important and maybe adding a little grit/size for playoffs.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be opposed to moving one of Auger or Mueller at the trade deadline to free up some space up front. Leaning towards keeping Mueller because he brings a bit more, but nice to see some good development from them. But otherwise, I wouldn’t do much to the team - save any moves for the off-season. I expect that 2024-2025 is still the go for it year, but I doubt they go all in like they would have if they got the memorial cup. We might actually get to see Desnoyers and Carrier play for the Cats for more than just 2 years which will be nice.
