"James Swan comes to the Islanders after having stints with the Halifax Mooseheads and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
Across three QMJHL seasons, Swan has posted 34 goals and 90 points across 150 games.
Swan comes from St-Laurent, Quebec but has both Canadian and Greek roots. He participated in the Development Series this year as a member of Team Greece “A”. While at the tournament he played in three games and recorded two assists.
The Quebec native measures in at 5’8” and 181 lbs. Swan is playing in his age-19 season but just turned 20 years old on Jan. 2.
“James is a kid we know well from his time with the Halifax Mooseheads. He’s an offensive player out of the Montreal area who is short in stature but he plays the game the Islanders way. He’s tenacious, gets after the puck and he’ll add some experience at 19 and offense which is much needed,” said Hulton."

Yeah I really like this pickup. No cost veteran leadership, plus he should slide into your top 6 and hopefully find some of his earlier scoring touch. If he's on the team as an OA, that's one less asset you need to burn next year to bring one in.

Really surprised at this one. I liked James Swan, he hasn't panned the same way I thought back in 2020, but still, glad to see him back in the Maritimes.
I wonder who the Islanders end up cutting?

Probably no one? As it stands they have 8 D and 13 F, 2 G. Think the limit is 25. Plus whatever the status is of Will Allen, wouldn’t hurt for a couple extra bodies.

I guess they already released Bowness and Todd so, yea. Nevermind that does make sense.

Swan is a guy who has had some success in the league. As has been mentioned, he showed promise at 16 and 17. In the first half of his 18 y/o season in Halifax he had 9 points in 23 games. Then following the trade to the Armada he had 17 points in 34 games.
He’s gone cold again this year with 13 points in 34 games thus far. Hopefully he can heat up again in our lineup. It seems as if he has been a streaky player.
There is opportunity in Charlottetown. If he has a successful second half he would stand a good shot of being a 20 y/o player for us next season.

How often do you see someone regress statistically as they age and then suddenly take off elsewhere in the same league?
Opportunity is there for Swan for sure but dont bet the farm on it? Lol
Would be great to find a pascal aquin type gem again

Of course, have to keep expectations in check on a guy who was just on waivers. Sure, it seems there have been abundance of decent players on waivers this year…..but you can’t expect to acquire a star in this fashion, of course.
Over the years who have been some guys we have picked up on waivers at mid season? Generally it is guys to fill out a roster.
Of course, Robillard was a waiver pickup last season.
Three others from the past I can think of right off:
Kevin Hamel Derek Famulare Brent MacSween
Surely there are likely others. Anyone else come to minds who meets this criteria?

Any relation to Bryce? Probably not, but he came to mind immediately.

so how has he looked so far? Don’t think he has put up many points, but he’s certainly a big upgrade on Todd/Bowness/Arsenault obviously. Not sure if he was on the 2nd PP but he was certainly killing penalties. Played on the second line with Huckins and I think Michaud, I think there’s certainly potential for him to turn things around and help out the team. If I remember correctly, we don’t have much in the way of overagers next season so I could definitely see him being one. Not bad for a free pick up.
