Because of the CHL prospects game in Moncton this week, we had a very thin Q schedule this past week. Most teams are back in action tonight and we head over to Halifax to kick off the weekend.
Hopefully some of our injured players are set to return.
Game time is 7:00.

Ondrej Maruna has been confirmed by Head coach Jim Hulton to be in the lineup tonight against the Mooseheads while veterans Cole Huckins (upper-body injury) and Michael Horth (lower-body injury) will both be game-time decisions.

People said the same about Alexandrov.....
He has 12pts in 36 games. Give the 17yr old time. He'll be fine.....Jesus.

But it is the reality that the vast majority of those points came in the first few weeks of the season and he has had nothing since. Something has happened to cause his play to fall off. When we drafted him, he was billed as a 17 y/o 6’3” centre who was on the radar as a 2024 NHL draft prospect. He never plays as a centre….he has alternated between 4th line winger and healthy scratch. To me, it seems the team has had enough and will likely move on for next year. It is unfortunate when we are unable to develop this type of player, because the reality of the Euro draft nowadays is that you have to draft and develop. Maruna is not going to develop as a 4th line winger/scratch….but at the same time we haven’t seen a lot to indicate he should be playing C on line 1/2. Unfortunate all around. I feel he’s closer to Anton Skorykh than Nikita Alexandrov. You’ll have to be getting up there to get that reference. Skorykh was a highly regarded Euro from Russia who played with the PEI Rocket years ago. The organization worked hard to get him out of Russia and he came in and flashed and dazzled. But after he’d been here a few weeks something happened and the offense completely dried up. At the end of it, he really couldn’t get in the lineup. People said the same about Alexandrov..... Tons of hype with really nothing to back it up. Disappointing, he could've been a good piece for us to either build around or trade. A rare and strange miss by scouts and Hulton. Hopefully we can improve on him next year.

But that is the nature of landing a Euro player. You don't really scout or interview the guy. You rely on agencies and contacts you have and hope that who you bring in is a good fit.
