He also had a team sleep walking in front of him and almost stole 2 wins by himself that he lost in OT. Steinman has been on the of the top 3-4 players on his team all year. I don't see a huge upgrade. Resources would be better spent elsewhere. Warren also has #1 upside, will be interesting to see where he is at next year. I'm not debating who the better goaltender may or may not be. I'm just saying your comment that he got lit up is misleading and not at all the truth. Rousseau kept Halifax in 2 games during a 4 game series where they were outworked for all 4 games. A lit up goaltender would have stats to reflect that. Especially if now its a Rousseau vs Steinman argument. Without looking tell me who has what stats after 4 games: 0-4 3.45 GAA .890 save % vs 0-4 3.60 GAA .893 save % The better numbers are the guy who was lit up vs Bathurst. The worst numbers is your top 3-4 player all year. You can argue there's no upgrade. But don't sit there and say 1 guy was lit up and say the other was a top player. They just had almost the exact same stats after 4 terrible games by their teams.

I think overall Halifax was a much better defensive team than Moncton so the numbers would not reflect the fact that Steinman had a very good year facing a ton of quality chances. I just don't see a point to paying big to go from one to the other.

He also brought his team the the finals the year prior and has way more experience on the big stage.

I will give you game 3 by all means. However the overall take is very interesting considering your goalie let in the same amount of goals with 10 less minutes played than Rousseau. Game 3 was a stinker and what hurt his numbers but the other 3 he did what he had to do and gave his team a chance to win. It’s not his fault they couldn’t score. There was 200 more shots on goal on Steinman than Rousseau in those 10 less minutes played. You can't use minutes played and total goals allowed as a meaningful stat comparison of 2 goalies. Moncton may be the most irresponsible defensive team in the league. I wish I had access to the data because I can't even imagine what the stats would be on dangerous chances, odd man rushes, breakaways allowed etc. Rousseau is a better goalie than Steinman but our assets would be far better spent on improving team defense as well as hiring a coach who holds players accountable for bad turnovers and bad pinches. Im going to take heat for this but bring it on. This is the dumbest rebuttal ever. 200 more shot? He didn’t even face 200 shots in the playoffs. In fact Rousseau faced 5 more shots total in the playoffs. So he played more and saved more and here’s another fun fact he only had a lead for 4 minutes the entire playoffs where Steinman could hold leads in 2 games a total of over 40 minutes of hockey. Seems like a very smart stand to take doesn’t it. One goalie had the chance to be a hero and hold a lead but couldn’t and the other kept his teams in it but they could t do squat.

Pretty sure that the 10 minutes statsman was talking about were in the playoffs, not the regular season.
But if he can't use minutes played and total goals as meaningful stats, then total number of shots shouldn't count either, considering Steinman faced those 200 extra shots playing in 5 more games than Rousseau.
Either way, I agree that your assets would be better spent elsewhere than on a goalie.

I was referring to the regular season which is a much larger sample size. If you were referring to playoffs then fair enough but I don't think it's really even worth looking at either goalie for what happened this playoffs. Neither team lost because of their goalie. Anyways I have zero clue why any of you is arguing with me since I never made any claim Steinman was better than Rousseau, just that personal preference is not to upgrade goaltending without taking care of other priorities.

There was a time when you could find a quality discussion on this board. Where people would just discuss hockey like normal people without hyperbole and childish comments but thats not really the case anymore unfortunately. "Bring it on" - what kind of adult conversation uses phrases like that ? I'm not looking to win some sort of flame war like we're a bunch of teenagers. I'm simply sharing my opinion on what's best for the team.

My last comment on the Steinman-Rousseau thing...bottom line, the WC have two good goalies, IMO it makes no sense to make a move in nets this off season. Go with those two guys and see how it plays out, both gain a year in experience and development. Both have stolen games at times this past year.
The WC need more grit up front and on D to go along with what they have on the roster.
If at midseason next year, goaltending is not where it has to be, that's the time to make a move, usually those moves don't cost an arm and a leg anyways.

My theory is simply you give steinman a chance behind a team with a new coach which hopefully improves the defensive structure etc and if he falters then you make a move, I don’t see Halifax moving Rousseau till Christmas anyway. Realistically there was 1 goal that series I think steinman should of had, the rest were tips, back door one timers or guys waking down the slot untouched.

The offense dried up outside of a couple games at the end of the year. Loshing scored scored 2 goals in the final 12 games of the year counting playoffs, Lounsbury looked to be primed for 20+, scored 3 goals in the last 28 games. Steinman finished tied for top 8 in scoring with 1 point.

I find it hard to judge our offensive players because I really believe they were terribly coached. So I think the jury is still out on a few of the players.
